I spent the day walking around Torquay to see what life in one of Britain's best-known seaside towns really looks like in 2026.
A few YouTubers have done videos showing mostly bad bits, but I wanted to show it isn't all doom and gloom, main reason being is that I lived here for quite a while and no there is more to it than the videos people post.
Torquay still has incredible coastline, beautiful architecture, busy cafés and some genuinely fantastic places to visit.
But like many UK seaside towns, it's also dealing with empty shops, changing high streets, homelessness, anti-social behaviour and the pressures affecting communities across Britain.
This isn't a polished tourist advert or a doom-and-gloom documentary - It's an honest walking tour showing both sides of Torquay exactly as they are today.
If you're planning to visit Torquay, already live in Devon, remember the town from years ago, or simply enjoy exploring Britain's seaside towns, I'd love to hear whether your experience matches mine.

.Yes we still enjoy visiting Torquay usually for a meal.
But I'm afraid it is exactly what's happening in many other towns and cities.
So so sad. But thank you for an interesting presentation. You've saved me a trip.
It be dirtier and more run down than I remember it when I moved here in the 80's, but it is still an amazing place to live, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the World!
Footfall has really struggled there and higher union street since their demise. .
New cinema complex opposite though..
Fleet Walk shopping centre is now owned by the council.
There is a street market to support the town and shops which grows in size during the main tourist season
Re The old Debenhans opposite the harbour.
Plans have been released this week to build a new hotel there with smaller ground floor shop units.....
The Harbour area has recently been repaved/ landscaped with government grant.
The fountain had fallen into disrepair before.
