In June 2020, the deaths of Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput became two of the most controversial cases in India. Disha Salian, who had worked as a celebrity manager, died after falling from a building in Mumbai on June 8, 2020, while Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14. The proximity of the two deaths led to years of speculation, investigations, political controversy and competing theories.

Six years later, the Disha Salian case took a fresh turn. On September 2, 2026, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to register an FIR and investigate the circumstances surrounding her death after considering a petition filed by her father, Satish Salian. The court order referred to discrepancies and questions surrounding the earlier investigation.

The CBI subsequently registered an FIR in September 2026. The FIR examines allegations including criminal conspiracy, murder, gang rape, destruction or fabrication of evidence and suppression of facts. Several names, including Aaditya Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray, Rhea Chakraborty, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi and others, appear in connection with the allegations requiring investigation. Importantly, the CBI has clarified that being named in the FIR does not mean that a person has been established as an accused or found guilty; their roles are to be investigated.
