I thought it would be obvious that all logs are scaled from the small end… but some are confused… possibly because I pulled some trees out top first instead of butt first? 😅

Thanks for the lunch updates, they are important to us fans!

I underestimated the average diameter of those cherry logs.  What a monster of a cherry tree!

The three log rules:  Doyle is most common rule used in hardwood scaling.  It's the least accurate in lumber volume estimation.  Scribner Decimal C is based on sawing patterns and allowance for 1/4 saw kerf, and logs are rounded to nearest 10 bf.  International 1/4 inch is the most accurate rule.
Veneer logs demand almost perfect logs, four sides clear, straight with minimal taper and completely round. Any knots, bird pecks, ring shake, limb scares and spiral grain downgrades venner to sawlog. Usually, minimum inside diameter is 14" to 16". Venner log must display consistent growth rate with a centered pith.

That logger lunch was an 860. Would have been 1000 with a second piece of Moms pie.

Great job on the doyle scaling. Thanks for sharing

Nice estimate, you're mathing well, like a good homeschool dad!  That cherry is amazing!

Good video Some nice timber! Pretty close on the scale!

That is super impressive Davey!!!! Have a great and safe holiday weekend 🙏

In 1890 a 465' Douglas fir was felled, the Nooksack tree produced 96,000 board feet of lumber.

Always  scale BF from the small end of the log. Extra flares/ taper  gets cutoff  as slabwood  on the sawmill. Logs with sweep, curves, shake or hollows   get deducted a couple  diameter  inches. Big cherrys  usually rot out  or get ants in the trunks here in WI.

interesting thanks

Interesting video.

Good job Dave! Maybe you should get to do his job.  Have a wonderful Labor day weekend.

All my buyers scaled using international. Doyle favors the larger trees. I had  an overseas buyer for veneer and there were times when he wanted me to cut a few trees at 22' length. He added 3 inches on to the small end. White oak veneer going to Germany. Back in the 80's he was paying $3.50 a board foot. Stay Safe.

I’m tempted to believe that any sawmill will always try to come out ahead. One dollar a thousand times adds up. I was shy by 50’ on the cherry. Winter is coming.

Fairly new to your channel, do you have a video on how you prep the logs after dragging them  with the skidder for bucking to avoid dulling your chain? Keep up the great content, really enjoying your channel!

What a nice looking log. If you ever need any help man I'm local. I got all my own gear. Even if it's only for a couple days, I'm happy to be in the woods. 🤙

34 board feet is awesome man that’s how you keep your log scaler honest  he scaled 37 logs that’s less than 1 board foot per log        Gotta watch out for the gum in Cherry that is what stops it from going veneer

Please have some blessed board feet.
