I spent the day at the Paul Bunyan Show checking out some of the newest and most innovative equipment in the firewood industry, and one thing became pretty obvious — the way firewood is being processed is starting to change.

More manufacturers are moving toward progressive and X-knife splitting systems designed to increase production, improve consistency, and reduce the amount of scrap created.

In this video I take a look at:

A massive Pezzolato firewood processor with a progressive X-knife splitting system
The new X Firewood Factory
Eastonmade’s new Gen 2 EVO
Eastonmade’s new 40-40 splitter with increased hydraulic force and faster cycle times
Eastonmades new 24 ton Axis
Good Wood’s New smaller 3-cord firewood kilns aimed at smaller producers
A highly efficient Crown Royal outdoor pellet boiler with a 1,400 lb pellet hopper that can reportedly run for around two weeks between fills
And plenty of other new equipment from around the show

There was a lot of impressive equipment on display this year, but the biggest takeaway for me was seeing how many companies are moving toward more automated and progressive splitting systems.

It definitely feels like the firewood industry is heading in a new direction.

Let me know in the comments what piece of equipment impressed you the most and whether you think progressive splitting is the future of firewood processing.
