The cool thing about being old now is that I was able to see him do this live in 1984 and again in 1992. RIP Eddie

I’m so glad younger people are finding this greatness. To us slightly older folks, this is what we grew up on, this was normal to us. This guy here not only influenced me to pick up the guitar, but millions of others. He was and will probably always be the greatest. I have to admit growing up in the late 70s all through the 80s and in the early part of the 90s produce some of the most amazing music and bands.

That’s the reason he IS The GOAT of rock guitar !!! Often imitated but never duplicated!!! Long Live Eddie Van Halen RIP King Edward 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻

The thing about Eruption is that it was different every tour or every show.

The Van Halen brothers, Eddie and Alex, were born in Amsterdam,  making them Dutch-American. They moved with their parents to Pasadena, California, in 1962. Their father was Dutch, and their mother was of Indonesian descent, giving them mixed heritage. I'm so glad you showed this awesome performance to Kaan, Anthony, 'Eruption' was the second track from Van Halen's self-titled 1978 debut album and this video is from 1986. I remember the first time I saw this performance it just completely blew me away, I had never heard anything like it,  This 13 minute solo is absolutely epic, and incorporates so much technical skill, creativity and experimentation, it's just mesmerising to watch, definitely, one of the best guitar solos ever! Thanks so much for your reaction guys. 😊❤

RIParadise Eddie

Regarding the two-handed tapping, Eddie Van Halen popularised the technique in the late 1970s, he claimed that his inspiration came from Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page: "I think I got the idea of tapping watching (Page) do his 'Heartbreaker' solo back in 1971." I was also reading that Steve Hackett, the former guitarist for Genesis, is widely credited as one of the first rock guitarists to use and record with a two-handed tapping technique in the early 1970s.  Also in the early 70s, Frank Zappa started incorporating it into his songs, and performing them to large TV audiences. ❤😊

Sad part is,he is gone forever , I grew up listening to this gifted soul, he was by all means , a genius. All we have are memories now , but I can hear his influence when I close my eyes and listen to Wolfgang shred , he is a chip off the old block . I , for one, will miss your gift for all Time , King Eddie, rest in peace , thanx for all you gave in my teens

Listened to this solo hundreds of times.still blown away😊😊

One of his guitars is in the Smithsonian Museum. Check out his interview on, "What it means to be an American". He explains his life. Coming to America after WWII, couldn't speak English, built his own guitars and equipment, and never learned to read music

This was actually 1986, with Sammy Hagar as singer.  The confusion is that there was a solo on their first album called eruption, so people sometimes just called his solos eruption.

1 man..a guitar. a symphony

This one was later than the other one...First one, Jump, had Dave on lead vocals (first singer).  This one had Sammy Hagar which was later

Thanks, bud, that's how you do it. You don't pause through this long ass solo. I appreciate it more than you know. One of the best reactions I've seen to this. Keep it up.

And to think this all started because this came from his warm-up routine in the studio. Let that sink in.

They are correct it is the best solo ever. Eddie was on fire during this time. I love watching people react to this particular solo. RIP Eddie you will always be missed each and every day. G.O.A.T

He didn't play guitar.  HE MADE LOVE TO THE GUITAR.  PERIOD.  PERFECTION

His big brother Alex on the drums is pretty bloody handy as well! You can see Eddie’s influence from his piano background as a kid. Just an incredible mind for music. The Einstein of guitar playing!

I was fortunate enough to witness this phenomenal performance a few times live. EVH was a force of nature.  RIP.

There is a nice story about Eddie and his son visiting a music shop that they often visited and once met Prince there. They introduced to each other and spent about 40 minutes jamming, admiring technique of each other and also teaching each other some nuances of guitar playing 🎸 RIP Prince & Eddie
