One of the most talented set of hands to ever pick up a guitar.  RIP Eddie.  Gone but never forgotten.

Eddie didn't invent tapping, but he sure as hell perfected it.

Eddie was the GOAT...There will never be another like him and is going down in history for changing the way electric guitar is played... R.I.P.  EVH

Just look at the comments.....
Edward Van Halen is  a TRUE Rock legend, as big as it gets for any guitarist, Arguably, the most "famous" guitarist in History.
10 multi platinum studio Albums ,,2 Diamond status albums went  over  10x platinum, many many top 20 songs,  put a humbucker in a stratocaster and changed the electric guitar industry  overnight,  forever,  his Amplifiers sound or "brown sound" has been chased, imitated , worshipped and  analyzed  by millions of Rock guitarists since 1978, his finger tapping caught the ears of every guitarist who plays rock guitar to this day, his striped guitar is recognized worldwide as VAN HALEN,   filled hundreds of stadiums , year after year after year, with massive Rock shows, played the Solo on Michael Jacksons "Beat it",      ...etc   etc...     hard to  name another Artist , of any kind  in that  zone.  ever.

This is actually a collection of many solos and intros, not just "Eruption". I've watched this dozens of times since 1986. Thanks for the video!

This solo is a combination of a lot of Eddie Van Halen solo pieces and riffs;

1:41 is a song called '316', which was named after his son's birthday, March 16 (from 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge').
2:46 is a variation of 'Eruption'. He uses the two-handed tapping technique (from Van Halen's first album).
8:24 is a variation of 'Cathedral'. He uses a technique called 'violining'. He hammers on the notes on the fretboard and creates volume swells with the guitar's volume knob. (from 'Diver Down').
11:06 is a variation of the opening riff of 'Mean Street'. He incorporates a form of bass 'slapping' (from 'Fair Warning').
13:11 is a variation of 'Spanish Fly'. More tapping (from 'Van Halen II')
15:20 is an improvised ending, showcasing his unique fast double-picking technique.

Eddie was an innovative guitarist who incorporated harmonics, feedback, 'whammy bar' action, heavy amp distortion, and phase shifter and delay effects into his playing along with his sheer speed, dexterity and sense of melody.

Nobody ever catches the part of him playing “cathedral” that he is using the volume knob in the right hand and bending the strings with the other. Starts at 8:21 in this video. Love seeing people watch this in Awe as I did as a kid and until this day.

Just ridiculous. RIP, Eddie. God, we miss you.

Dont try to figure out Eddie Van Halen just stop and listen to greatness

Eddie will always be an inspiration to all guitarists, not only for his techniques, but for his simplicity and charisma that he had. RIP EVH

Lex, the look you had on your face at 5:08 is EXACTLY the look we all had seeing him live. RIP Eddie.

A guitar GENIUS!!

This part of the show was about two thirds in. The other guys get a restroom break, but Eddie had to wear parachute pants.
You both mentioned piano, drums and guitar. Guitar is Ed’s third instrument, first was classical piano, then drums.

Where Lex said she thinks this part is Eruption, that part is actually called "Cathedral". This is different songs used just to showcase his talents. Much of this is all from his experimentations.

he is in his own world when he plays no one can match him there will be no other player like him r.i.p evh

Eddie was the man....well known for his tapping technique!!

As great as Eddie was, my favorite thing about him was that he always had so much fun playing. You'll never see anyone smile ear to ear the whole time he played, the way Eddie did.

Eruption, the actual studio song is mixed up throughout this solo, which was probably in the middle of the show. If you check out Eruption/You Really Got Me, you'll hear what the song really sounds like.

Eddie Van Halen didn't learn to play this way,  He invented it.  Before EVH this didn't exist.

"Guitar face" or whatever one wants to call it, is just a display of emotion just like one using their hands as they talk. Stevie Ray Vaughan had some of the best stank faces in the game.

You two are really observant, Lex first said it's like he's playing the piano, then it's like he's playing the drums. EVH started on the piano as a child, went to the drums, didn't like it landed on the guitar. Love your reaction to one of the greats Mr. Edward Van Halen :P
