Introduced in 2014, the playoff system has its origins in 2004 with the original Chase, and despite a good first outing, after that it has only chipped away at the legitimacy of the sport, bit by agonizing bit. And ratings, in turn, have nose-dived. So what are the playoffs and why are they so detrimental to NASCAR? Well, let's take a look. . .

Just taking a victory lap. Goodbye playoffs. Rest in piss

You forget one thing. You proposed an intelligent idea. That type of idea will never pass in modern Nascar.

It's like everyone in charge after Bill France Jr never heard the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

How to win the nascar championship win 1 of the first 26 races. Finish in the top 5 the next 9,and finish better than 3 other drivers and boom your champion.

You lost me at points for stages....but won me back when you said no flag for stages.

Winning a race in this format is somehow extremely important and completely useless at the same time.

The moment at 10:10 is such a Mark Martin moment. And it makes me physically hurt

“The NASCAR Playoffs are Worse than You Thought”

Is that even possible?

15:33 he IS a traditionalist. At least he’s a good one who uses valid points and comparisons in contrast to attacks.

This is even more relevant this year with Truex missing the playoffs while being 4th in points.

Your update on the old points system makes perfect sense. That's exactly why NASCAR won't do it until they're about to go bankrupt.

2023 Trucks Phoenix is another reason why the chase in racing is wrong

That points format proposal is basically exactly what I want in a points format. I couldn't possibly make a better one if I tried. Great video!

Who’s here in 2026 watching this as a tribute video, now that the chase is back 😂

14:29 your point sistem, sounded like a mix of Winston cup, F1 and FE points sistem, and I LIKE IT

@materthetater 4 years ago

Right now Martin Truex Jr is 4th in points and could miss the playoffs for a guy who is 20th in points. This video aged like fine wine.

You want to why there was 2 checkered flags being waved in 2014 at Homestead... because one of the NASCAR flag men, Rodney Wise was retiring after that race.
