In this video, we talk about the Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500. This 1500 sized Ocea Jigger is probably more useful than the bigger 2000 size because of a few reasons. This video discusses why it is a superior reel compared to the bigger sized brother and why it should be the de facto standard people should be using rather than the bigger sized reel.

That 7kg is for full spool of line. Below that the drag increases. Which can increase quite high

I use gloves always when jigging so it does not matter..Fish On!

Just come back from Norway using a 1500 matched with a 200g Grappler rod. No issues landing 25lb + Cod also 20lb + Coalfish.....😊🐟

Being able to palm your reel makes jigging much easier, that's why you get smaller one unless you need line length

This is my GOAT reel. Bought another OJ 2000 and Talos Lever Drag but I still go back to this reel on my main setup. I agree just change the handle and knob then this becomes the perfect reel for slow jigging. Right now I'm using PE 1.2 on this reel and just recently caught a great barracuda XD

Hello, first I'd like to say your channel is a treasure trove of jigging information. Thank you for making this channel, I am very new to jigging btw. Lastly, I would like to ask a question, sorry if it's a bit ignorant to ask but for your handle, did you get the Studio Ocean Mark AE85/AL98 or the AE85/AL90?

Interested in your take on the Ocea 2500LD. A smaller version
around that 1500 size with the improved internals would be nice.

Hello mr kit which do u prefer the aftermarket handle for 1500 95mm or 110mm...should i go buy 110mm handle i use the reel for slow jig and bottom fishing

Thanks. I have two of these 1500 because I like the sizing. But always contemplated if I should have gotten the 2000 instead. Your insight helps tremendously.

Is the 1000 size a good choice if I plan to mainly fish less than 100m?

@sssean39 7 months ago

This is next on my list. Went with the accurate boss valiant 500N SPJ first. Would be interested to see a side by side real world fishing comparison of the two.

I chose the 2000pg loaded with 600m of pe2 35lb ygk on an ocea b636 rod, use it for ruby snapper and 8 bar cod in depths 250m-350m using medium paced mechanical jigging style. Seems to work ok.

For fast jigging tunas and dogtooth, do you recommend OJ4000 or OJ4000HG?

@elliotbryant9733 7 months ago

How would you compare it to the saltiga 10 or 15 for slow pitch?

@motoangler1992 4 months ago

Thanks for the tip!

Another thing, you mentioned like a 150 meter depth for the 1500xg size OJ, can I go deeper up to 200m+ with it?
