In 1756, a war that historians would later call the Seven Years' War broke out in Europe. It was initiated by the Prussian King Frederick II. By continually attacking his neighbors, he nearly doubled Prussia's territory. However, this time, he nearly lost not only all his possessions but also his crown. During the Seven Years' War, Russian troops inflicted a series of heavy defeats on the Prussian army and captured Königsberg in 1758. Afterward, the city and all of East Prussia were incorporated into the Russian Empire. The new Governorate-General lasted for more than four years, and among those who swore allegiance to Empress Elizabeth Petrovna was the great German philosopher Immanuel Kant. How did Russian troops manage to defeat Frederick the Great's army, considered one of the strongest in Europe? What were the "Shuvalov" howitzers? When did Russian troops first take Berlin? What valuable trophy did the Russians take after the Battle of Kunersdorf?

You will also learn why the residents of East Prussia greeted Russian soldiers with flowers in 1813 and see for the first time unique artifacts and documents relating to the history of the Napoleonic Wars, including rare documents from the General Military Archives of the French Republic. Why was the Battle of Eylau in 1807 Napoleon's first major setback as emperor? What feat of Russian soldiers did Pushkin describe in his poem "The Bronze Horseman," saying: "The radiance of these copper caps, shot through and through in battle"?

Why did Winston Churchill praise the Russian army's victory at Gumbinnen in August 1914? What enabled the French to achieve their first victory over the Germans in 1914?

Why did the pioneering Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov argue with his German colleagues about the origins of the Rurik dynasty and consider the Varangians to be a Slavic tribe? What do Russian chroniclers say about the origins of the Romanov family, and what recent discoveries confirm the ancient ties between Kievan Rus and the Prussian tribes? The answers to these and many other questions are in director Alexei Denisov's new historical documentary, "Russian Prussia."
