The woman leading the class who talked about "bringing the SPARK back in your marriage" is the author of the original book, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

She absolutely did go and pick that honey out of the stump. Her stunt double backed out. One of my favorite movies.

In the novel, Ninny & Idgie are two separate characters. However, the movie lightly insinuates that Ninny is Idgie. Buddy, Ruth's son, is married with kids & lives in another state. Idgie is still alive, running her own honey business & is traveling.
In the novel, it's made very clear that Ruth & Idgie are lovers & everyone in town is aware but says nothing. It's basically an open secret. But because this movie was made & released in the early 90s, the studios chose to make Ruth & Idgie platonic friends. However, I think the subtle hints of Idgie's attraction to Ruth was intentionally put in the movie

I love to see men who are not afraid to show emotion...especially on cam. Thank you.

This movie has never fallen out of my top ten of all time!

Fannie Flagg, who wrote the book and screenplay, came from my hometown and state. She’s a wonderful comedian and writer. She was Oscar nominated for her screenplay for this movie. We don’t have a real town or cafe called Whistle Stop but the town and cafe were based on the city of Irondale and the cafe of the same name. You should definitely try fried green tomatoes. Every family has a special way they cook them and they all tend to be delicious! Lol

Maybe this was already posted about the bee scene. They had hired a stunt woman or bee expert to collect the honey, but she got scared and backed out. The actress Mary Stuart Masterson, who played Idgie, volunteered to do it. I don't think she got a single sting.

The supermarket scene with the car is the greatest movie scene of all time.

Mrs. Threadgoode mentioned that she married one of Idgie's brothers Cleo when she first met Evelyn at the beginning of the movie. Besides her first name Is Ninny and she even said she had a crush on Idgie's brother Buddy, the one that was hit by a train and talks about Idgie in the third person when she could've just revealed who she was if she was Idgie.

did not see nor was aware of this movie, but Kathy Bates, once again, delivers a great performance ; you can tell she has extensive stage work experience.

Definitely one of my favorites i cry everytime. When i need a good cry I go to this film. Such a beautiful story

44:13 That scene, where Kathy Bates shifts from tears to joy upon learning that Niny hasn't died is a true masterclass in acting. Few actors or actresses can transition so skillfully from one emotional extreme to the other. 👏👏👏👏

Please consider "The Shawshank Redemption" as a future option. It's worth it😊

Jessica Tandy is an absolute legend. She's also wonderful in both Cocoon and *batteries not included.

I live about 45 minutes to the north of Juliette, GA, where The Whistle Stop Cafe is located. It became a popular tourist stop after the film's release. I used to ride my motorcycle down there during my weekend "wind therapy sessions", but it's probably been a solid decade since my last visit.

Mary Stuart Masterson the actress did in fact go up to a bee hive and do that. She was not suppose to but her body double refused to so she decided to do it herself. She did not get one bee sting.

I remember Fanny Flagg from seeing her as one of the regular celebrity panelists on the game show Match Game in the late 70s and/or early 80s and only thought of her as a funny comedian. I never knew she could write such a beautiful story until I watched this movie about 20 years ago.

In the novel, it's very clear that Idgie and Ninny are two different people. Ninny married Idgie's brother Cleo, who I believe was the boy who said little Idgie looked like a monkey, and later came with Big George to collect Ruth when she left Frank.

Fried green tomatoes are sort of acidic veggie flavored, with breading. Very similar to fried pickles.

Mrs. Threadgoode tells us she was married to Idgie's other brother (not Buddy)- the one that called Idgie a monkey before the eldest sister's wedding. Ruth was essentially her sister-in-law, because Idgie and Ruth were absolutely a couple. I don't know why the end of the movie implies Mrs. Threadgoode is Idgie.

There is a Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette, Georgia. They made it for the movie and it remained open after they were done filming.
