He was an alcoholic and had the shakes (going through withdrawal) so to calm his nerves down, Iggy just gave him a little bit of “the hair of the dog” to help him out.

It breaks my heart that this generation only sees movie's that Cicely Tyson only has small parts. Ms Tyson is a legend 🎉❤

FUN FACTS: In the movie, Igie & Ruth have a sisterly/companion-like friendship. However, in the book, Ruth & Igie are full-blown lovers living in Igie's family home. It's an open secret throughout the town.
In the movie, the old lady, Ms. Threadgoode is insinuated to be Igie. However, in the book, the old lady is not Igie but an adopted relative of the Threadgoode family. Igie is still alive, traveling & running her business of selling honey. Also, Ruth's son, Buddy Jr. , is alive & married living in another state.

The bee scene was 100% her doing that in real life. There was no CGI back then! I'm glad u did this.. it's 1 of my comfort movies & I badly needed sum comfort tonight!

In a more honest and healthy society, we would openly acknowledge the beautiful love story this is. Many avenues and roads to take, for love to take root. Love is not reserved for just hetero peoples. xo The food fight scene in the diners' kitchen between Ruth and Idgie is when they actually first  consummate their love for each other and  become a couple, in the book.

Ninny (Mrs. Threadgoode) tells Evelyn near the beginning that she married into the Threadgoode family, that she married Idgie's brother Cleo.

That preacher wasn't Ruth's father. Her father was also a preacher but the one in the movies is just a local preacher.

The actress Jessica Tandy plays an equally amazing performance in the movie Batteries not Included. A beautiful movie

42:44  Overall, this is a sad scene, but just consider, Ruth asked Idgie to tell the story because she enjoyed Idgie's stories.  So her last memory was of Idgie relating her favorite story to her.  So for Ruth, this is a pleasant scene.

One of the most beautiful movies ever, i miss 90's...

One of my faves. I recently saw a photo of (a young) Cicely Tyson in the Portrait Museum in Washington, DC. She had an extensive career, appeared in 45+ movies and shows. So beautiful!! And a beautiful spirit. RIP.

"buddy jr.'s arm died" 😂😂😂

The lady who played Ninny is Jessica Tandy. You should also check out Driving Miss Daisy with her and Morgan Freeman (one of the best actors to ever live) It’s FANTASTIC

My favorite movies are ones that can make you laugh and cry. This is one of my all time favorites.

From what I have heard they toned down the gay aspect of their relationship from the book.  They also imply that the old woman is telling her story when she was supposed to be someone that worked next door and knew them well.

6:50  "When we think of romance and marriage, what is the first thought that comes into your mind?"
"<whispered> Divorce."
This lady is a hoot.  Unfortunate that she has such a small part.

13:50  Yeah.  This took serious nerve.  My hat's off to Mary Stuart Masterson.  That's the actress.  She literally got covered with bees for this scene.

0:30  Jessica Tandy.  Time was, this actress was very famous.  But she passed away in 1994 at the age of 85 and then her name fell into disuse. 🤷‍♂
Accordingly, this movie was once known well as a film with Jessica Tandy.  Now, it's better known as a movie with Kathy Bates.

Fried green tomatoes are a southern staple.

45:50 That scene, where Kathy Bates shifts from tears to joy upon learning that Niny hasn't died is a true masterclass in acting. Few actors or actresses can transition so skillfully from one emotional extreme to the other. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
