Skip to 10:30 in the video to get existential with me hehe!

I hope you enjoy this different format of video ✨ how do you stay motivated to play in just one world long-term?

I found that if I want to “start a new world” I’ll grab some basic supplies to start a farm, bit of materials, and head off somewhere entirely new in my world. Start building from scratch in a fresh untouched area is no different from where a new world would drop me. And if I want or need things I can go back to my bases. Or make a massive integrated system to connect things. Then start decorating and make things along the way; then there’s always something to do. But I don’t need to keep loading up new worlds to do so.

I fear I can never open a forever world in hardcore, I will 100% die in the first 15 minutes of gameplay by doing something dumb

My forever world is actually technically my parent's world. My mom, dad, sister and I started a realm back when realms first started. That world is so cherished for me. Theres so much history; friends we've made and lost, builds showing how my sister and I have grown (watching things evolve from cringey dirt huts to actual builds lol), seeing interests grow and fade. I had a son of my own 6 months ago. I'm looking forward to letting him wander through this example of my childhood someday, and maybe he can spend some bit of his there too.

I feel like one big reason I've seen for people quitting their forever worlds is the misconception that you have to log on every single day. It's perfectly okay to take your time and build your world at a pace you want, as well as taking longer breaks. I had an intense week long obsession with my Minecraft world 2 years ago and would play it whenever I could, and then got bored. I came back to it a few days ago and I'm taking my time now because I love my world and don't want to give it up again.

I think it's also too important that no matter how long you have been in one world, you can still throw everything in a chest, head off with a boat and a bed, and restart somewhere new. As long as you have the willpower, you can start over the grind somewhere new and keep that 'new world' feeling over and over again in the same world. It's not like you ever get to fully explore the whole map!

that storage area (not to mention the ravine it is nestled into!) is so stunning.  It might be my fave ever!!  Your world is breathtaking.  I love it so much.  Really enjoying this series too

Started my latest world with a roleplay in mind. Got a journal to write in and all. I make and expand stuff to fit the lore in my head, making it look lived-in rather than Pinterest picturesque

Because it's a roleplay, playing in the moment matters more than finished projects. I don't plan on ever showcasing it. It's just for me. Like a private journal

I think your approach to a forever world is spot on! I think the best advice I can give that has helped me with my forever world is to find people to share it with whether that be a partner, a friend, or through content creation! I think putting your forever world into videos like you do can really help motivate returning :)

I've had the same world for 6 years. The few times I felt I want to start a new world I pack a few shulkers with some essential items to help me get started, grab rockets, put on my elytra and start flying at random direction until I see somehing cool I'd like to work with. Back then the perfectionist in me barely tolerated my clumsy old builds but now is cool to visit different eras of my builds. I also like leaving behind lots of items so its nice to go on supply runs if I need something specific. Also planning on taking apart a massive deepslate castle I built when the blocks first released and reusing it for a new build.

Sometimes the iron farm will stop working when there’s too many iron golems in the area, your iron farm should be further away from the village since the villagers have their own iron golem it’ll mess up the iron farm thinking there’s already an iron golem

Everyone is starting their forever worlds lately, lmao.
And that's a good thing.

I love this video, I feel like the start of a forever world is the least exciting part because it’s really not a forever world until you have it for a long time. I see a lot of videos titled “the perfect start to my forever world” and I don’t get it!!! I feel like it would be more fulfilling to even take an old world you have and just continue it.

No because once I realized a forever world is supposed to be... forever it really changed how I interact with the game. In December of 2024 I hopped on the trend and made my own, then I abandoned it shortly after building a house for myself. Normally this is where a 2 week phase ends and repeats a few months later. What stood out to me though was I kept it in the back of my head, every now and then I would think "Well it's not abandoned it's my forever world, I'll get around it eventually" I played on a couple servers in 2025 but those typically don't last a long time. Eventually I figured it might be a good time to try single player Minecraft again and I came back to it. I made a couple farms, some enchantments but the progress was slow, which I didn't mind since again, it's supposed to be forever. At that point I completely stopped restarting saves.

I've had times where I played it for a week and dropped it for 4 months, then killed the ender dragon and dropped it again but now in 2026 something just clicked and I'm obsessed with it. I'm working on two areas that I plan to rotate between. My main base is in a winter biome and with summer coming up I needed a change of course so I put a pause on any main base related projects and now I'm designing a tropical jungle island. :face-red-heart-shape: It's just so fun and freeing I don't need to start over to have fun with the game. I don't need to grind, finish builds every time (especially with big projects like building a town for example) I hop on whenever I want to play Minecraft and do whatever. Very happy I started this save.

ALSO IMPORTANT TO ANYONE ACTIVELY PLAYING ON A WORLD LIKE THAT - MAKE BACKUPS! I would like to believe this is beyond common knowledge but it's especially important with long term save files. MAKE BACKUPS PLEASE! :face-blue-wide-eyes:

there's an italian youtuber that over the years has made 6 seasons (+1 in english but he deleted it) and he got to 1000 episodes multiple times. his worlds are amazing and he always finds a way to make things different and never boring. i would LOVE to have his love for the game honestly

i really enjoyed the video

my forever world advice, aside from what you already mentioned in the video:
- eliminate certain things that feel too slow like they keep you down, for example set up auto farms for stuff you truly find boring to farm. or disable phantoms and other bothersome things like that
- keep certain things deliberately slow, because hyperefficency can remove fun aspects. personally i'll never make certain farms because going out and gathering resources is too much fun to me.
- do a variety of projects. small builds you can make on a whim, medium size builds that require a little more, and large projects to gradually chip away at over the course of many months
- long term goals. some things i want to do eventually in my world is connect everything up with roads, paths and bridges, i want to make a village with a house for every enchantment, and i want to explore and map out every single cave in my home area using banner markers on maps. im in no rush to complete these goals, but it's motivating to have a bigger vision to aim for
- take breaks so that the game can feel fresh when you come back. and if you ever happen to take a looong break, remember that your forever world is always there for you to return to wherever you're feeling it
- customise your game. my forever world is on a custom world, and i use a few resource packs and mods to change stuff here and there.
- just play around, mess around and have fun

My longest-running world so far has been going on since the end of March 2026. I've made it to netherite. I like the concept of the "forever world" or the "as long as possible" world. I guess it's a version of the sunk cost effect (not really "fallacy" as there's nothing wrong with forever worlds). And hey, if 2036 me looks back at my old worlds that's a good opportunity to do some self-archaeology!

Mine is 2 and a half years old, with ~700 in game days. Honestly, there’s not even that many builds. One complete house, four or five other unfinished houses, an unfinished constructed pale garden I was making near my base, and a few small builds I got from YouTube. That’s mostly it, it’s quite underwhelming for a “forever world”. But I’m at the point where if I ever felt like doing something big, I have the tools to get the stuff I need. And despite how little there is to see, it still feels nice when I hop on once in a blue moon to see my stuff there

0:16 the fact that the background music is syncing to the little hops is so perfect and healing ❤

something that helps me is actually having farms for different resources. when you already have the elytra it makes sense to have both a creeper and a sugar cane farm. when you defeat the ender dragon and want to upgrade your armor and tools it makes sense to make an enderman farm (or at least a different efficient xp farm). and when you do decide to build those farms, don't treat it like a chore but another part of your forever world. you make everything easier for yourself so you can focus on building later on.

what also helped me is having a book and quill in my world with a to do list. i get so many ideas on what i want to build but when i relog later on i forget them all, or get overwhelmed with the amount of ideas. so i write them all down and switch between focusing on them however i like.
