For anyone concerned, we use this video in FRNSW to show what happens when you ignore all training and procedures and lose your grasp as an incident commander. It's a learning tool to show what not to do.
IC probably needed to be a little more focused on cutting utilities and conducting a recce rather than micromanaging the way FF's were putting water on the job.
It's always awesome seeing raw unedited video from the ICs point of view - it's a massive help to aspiring crew leaders and officers seeing how real jobs work. Please keep these coming!
So many don'ts in this. So is extremely flustered, getting tunnel vision and not maintaining overall control of the situation, micromanaging the trained firefighters. Telling them to break down the door when they don't have water at the branch. Nobody has confirmed if everyone is accounted for and a primary search hasn't been done of the areas that they can safely access. FF at around 6 minutes isn't wearing one of his gloves. the SO allowed a member of the public to stay in the line of smoke and in the incident scene. looks all very chaotic and unprofessional
As a NZ firefighter this was like the keystone cops, not able to properly operate the flow rate on the branch and improper PPE. BA but no gloves! On fire attack on a structural fire. 😂 There’s just heaps of appalling bad practice but a great training video!
I've been doing this for nearly 30 years....important to keep calm voices...don't set a plan before you arrive...don't micromanage....and hopefully your crew will look after you......calm measured orders......
Having an officer yell and carry on like that, helps no-one, yes it was a reasonably good call to not enter the building, but some things could have been done better here.
Hopefully no one was hurt / the chief sounds like a teacher lol I’m quite surprised by the way he talking to his crew I’m sure they have plenty off experience themselves cut the red tape and let them get on with it &&
