For those who asked why the truck filming didn't move, they went into "Burnover" mode, A video showing this can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxG1sUxR_6c

If anyone would like any perspective on the audio here, those ripping sounds, they’re the crew tearing off the Velcro on the roll down burnover blankets on the windows and reaching for temporary air in Front of them, also held in place by Velcro tabs. The sound of running water is ‘crew protection’ which basically is the trucks external sprinkler system covering the main body and the wheels so they can hopefully drive out the other side on the black. Either the driver or the passenger in the front hit the button to initiate this This is scary stuff. If you’re ever in Australia and bump into a bush fire brigade, like any fire brigade, when they’re not busy they will no doubt fully talk you through these trucks. They’re incredible bits of kit. After all, what a lot of people don’t realise is the vast majority of these guys are volunteers. Myself included.

Just a quick reminder how terrifying fires are and how fast they move

And now I understand why you can never outrun a fire. That moved at an almighty speed!

’Mayday mayday mayday we’ve got no water’
It’s easy to say ‘you’re supposed to keep a reserve of water for these situations’ but in the real world, sometimes things don’t happen the way they should.

I must say, that radio call sent chills down my spine. I’ve been in a burnover like this, it happened so fast that we didn’t even realise it was happening until the flames were above us and the other side of the road was burning. We were lucky, it just flashed by and kept going. The smoke was so thick we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. Everything glowed orange for a few moments as the flames flashed over our heads and then we just kept squirting water towards the smoke that glowed the brightest. I don’t know how the hell our truck driver got us out of there but I sure was grateful to get home safely that night. So I couldn’t imagine how it would’ve felt to be in that situation with no water. Ugh. No thanks!

After an accident you should get out of vehicle, inspect the damage and exchange details immediately

I thought the light on the right was the blue skies untill I heard one of the men say here it comes. I thought where? Where is it? Then suddenly realise the blue light wasn't sky it was huge flames! This video is so frightening to watch, I can only imagine what it must have been like inside the trucks.. heroes, all of them..

3 1/2 years later youtube is recommending this for me. I watched it back then and thought this was about the current ongoing fires.
I have to admit it takes a special type of person to do this.

This is possibly the scariest thing I have ever seen

This is why you don't stay and defend your house in thongs with a garden hose

That is as real as it gets.

That's a seriously fast moving fire. Big respect for the Fireies who take massive risks everyday to do this job.

Is their delta designation, "Dingo?" Cause that's fuckin' amazing.

Don't be too harsh on the front truck. You could hear over the radio that they had no water and were calling out a mayday to say so. The rear trucks sprinkler system was working properly and had gone into "lockdown" while the fire passed.

Additionally the front truck was getting into a position where the ute could park beside them to give protection as the ute would not have had any  suppression system on board.

Think from memory, we lost that fire truck. I know we lost a few appliances during the Pinery fire. No firefighters died during this fire but many were severely burnt. The only deaths were a farmer trying to protect his property and neighbouring properties and a woman who drove into the fire looking for her partner.

Don't blame the CFS and other emergency services personnel for using every foul word under the sun as soon as the flames were upon them. Flashover happens in the blink of an eye during a bushfire burning under catastrophic weather conditions. In the intense heat and thick smoke, the driver in the truck ahead couldn't see his/her colleagues behind them. 😔

Never forget the 25th of November 2015. The fire was reported around midday and not long after this video was taken was when the CFS admitted that there was nothing they could do and Adelaide's MFS support alone was not enough so the call went out to our brothers and sisters across the state borders for HELP. RFS and CFA were the first to answer the call.

Its videos like this that make me thankful sometimes for the dreary rain we get in the UK. The speed at which that fire spread was insane.

things you never want to hear over the radio during a burnover.

"I have 2 crew out of the appliance, I have no idea where they are"
"We've got no water"

This fire was so hot and so fast in incinerated 86,000ha in 4 hours. Most paddocks that havnt been plowed and sown are still bare dirt and it has been almost a year. The front was being pushed by 90-110km/h winds, at this time it was estimated the front was traveling at about 90km/h. The fire was also spotting up to 20km ahead of the main front. The initial brigades faced a situation where the water was evaporating before the water hit the fire. Thats 10m at 750kpa pumping about 240lt a minute and it wasnt reaching the burning grass 10m away

Never seen a fire move so fast in my life, it was crazy and wild that day and pitch black, if the wind hadn't changed we would of been in serious trouble in the Barossa. What a fantastic job the CFS volunteers do :)

Champions, shit like this is why I drop off a slab for the firies every Christmas, they've saved my town just about every year, amazing

This one video is enough to prove the extent of fire fighters struggle.
