How Girls’ Generation Became the Godmothers of K-pop

THE NOITE

65,312 views

Girls’ Generation began as nine ambitious trainees with one goal — to change the game. From “Into the New World” to “Gee,” “The Boys,” and “I Got A Boy,” they shattered records, redefined what girl groups could be, and became the blueprint every generation still follows. This documentary dives into their legacy — from domination, reinvention, and global expansion to their bond as nine individuals who changed the industry forever. This is the story of how Girls’ Generation became the standard, the era, and the name you still hear in every corner of K-pop.

Would K-pop be the same without Girls’ Generation? And who’s your bias? 👀

No matter 9 or 8 members, SNSD is still legendary, all nine members are successful in their own career.

And this is the true 'Nation Group', a title that was received directly by the Korean nation.
They were the first girls to create a REVOLUTION in kpop.

Their brand is bankable. SNSD didn’t even had a flop era! All discography are bops

When even the newest girl groups still learning and performing ITNW you know it's legendary

Nowadays people call them The Avengers of Kpop. The group who never stops gaining new followers even in hiatus. Members who still include their group name when introducing themselves to this day. Gotta love them for that. #gg4evah

After their 2017 move (post-10th anniversary), a lot of girl groups followed suit. SNSD proved you can go solo under different labels without cutting ties with your group or home company. And the best part? They did it without any messy legal battles. They had every reason to drag the company for how they were treated over the years, but they chose professionalism instead. That grace and maturity are part of what made future comebacks possible.

The SNSD phenomenon is truly once in a lifetime. You had to be there to fully understand how much they shaped KPop as a whole. Streams and sales records can be broken but legacy? That’s forever. You don’t replace it, you build on it. 👑💖

You’re telling their story like SNSD never had struggles. What you are leaving out is that they debuted at a time when BGs were more popular than GGs. That led to the “black ocean” (the worst moment for SoShi). That eventually led to their legacy.

My only regret in life is that I didn't have the financial capability to have watched SNSD's concert back when they were still 9 members. Financially and geographically unlucky.

SNSD is just the perfect balanced team, SM struck the jackpot with these girls.

The TEXTBOOK Of Every K-Pop Girl Group

@JuneieBack 1 year ago

You voiced what still makes them popular and iconic. Many groups don’t do this. Once they start doing solo stuff, they usually leave what they started behind. Girls’ Generation is able to pursue and be successful in individual activities while also maintaining their group status. You never really see an article with a member in it that doesn’t mention them being a member of the group. Even with how successful they are individually. They never outgrew Girls’ Generation. They instead grow with it. So whenever they reunite, it never feels like a reunion. It feels like a hello and see you soon. You can tell that they love what they do and they love doing it with each other.

GIRLS’ GENERATION PAVED THE WAY

This is a perfect breakdown of how SNSD became the biggest and most important group is Kpop's history! I am a proud Sone of 15 years, and this video really does a great job at explaining how this happened! ❤

@Youar3right 1 year ago

they were undoubtedly the first group to open the doors for K-POP to go global. no one can deny that fact. Millenials and some Gen Z should be grateful to experience their era while it lasted

@Migzter05 1 year ago

The one group that I’ll stan for life. I became a SONE back in 2009, and man has it been a journey watching these girls. ❤️

@DiHiong 1 year ago

11:19 I think it is worthy to note that they were one of the first if not THE first group to reunite despite being signing on under different entertainment labels.

It was also SNSD’s miraculous reunion that sparked hope for other 2nd Gen groups like 2NE1 & KARA and in interviews, they also acknowledged this fact. Thanks to SNSD, there were waves of 2nd Gen kpop comebacks in the present day.

@erickreyes7902 1 year ago

Their LIONHEART ERA should be studied by newer generations... I have never seen a COMEBACK were they were showing different concept in a single album, that was never been done before... and I never seen GGs done that eversince... the amount of TALENT and PROFESSIONALISM that takes is impeccable...
