the positivity myth is real, i find it hard to fake smiles all day, sometimes i turn to Wisebits stories for some genuine wisdom

Appreciate Chill Dude for not only giving everyone a reality check, but calling out toxic positivity.

The cult of self-help. It's just a buying scheme. The real help of self-help is understanding and giving yourself grace. This is some good advice.

The "you can do anything you put your mind to!" type saying is actually dangerous. I feel like living proof of that. As a teenager i over exercised because i was told it would "help" the "issues" with my legs. Turns out i have early onset rheumatoid arthritis and the constant exercise was making things much worse. I now have serious joint damage in my knees and require a mobility aid to walk. Turns out you can't do anything you want just by believing you can. I absolutely dispise seing things like that written on childrens classroom walls, it makes me worrry that another kid out there with an undiagnosed disability could seriously injure themselves. Your body has its limits, so listen to what your body is telling you!!! Don't end up like me, please! Stay safe!

There’s goes my plans of becoming a snail racing expert 😢

When people want you to be positive, that's for their comfort, not yours

“Fake it until you make it” is said by incredibly lucky people. You need real skills and achievements, which requires work and practice.

This is super on point. I've been a victim of unrealistic self-help causing me to have an even lower self-esteem and get burnt out for simply forgetting that I am human! Do your best, give yourself grace, and remember you're not a machine, you're human with complex and valid emotions. This video was a reality check that is perfectly digestible!

I would add the "fighter" mentality for critically ill people. "you're going to make it because you're a fighter" kinda implies if they lose their life that they didn't fight hard enough

It's really refreshing for this type of subject matter to be framed in a nontoxic way. I hope a lot of young people see this, but everyone can benefit.

“Just be positive” — bro I'm not a light switch. This video finally said what no self-help book ever dares to

Self help is just “if you’re sad, just stop being sad” in a nutshell

Chasing 'having it all' is like a fantasy-life’s about seasons and choices. I enjoy listening to main characters share life lessons on wisebits stories, and it reminds me to prioritize what matters. Good insights here!

He’s made me feel so normal since I’ve been watching his videos 😂I’m always saying “ ohhh so Im NOT the only oneeee”

Thank you for this video! I'm 60, and I grew up with the concept of self-help. It was just a part of life. I was also into New Age spirituality and the Cult of Positivity when I became an adult. When I had a life-changing crisis thirty years ago, I applied all these concepts. For the most part, they didn't really work. At first I was ashamed and tried harder. Nope. I questioned why which led me to a place of being realistic and persevering rather than "positive" and believing in supernatural forces. In the past ten years or more, books have been written critical of self-help, toxic positivity, and New Age stuff like the "Law of Attraction." We must think critically about everything and make sure it works for us. We must not let others shame us into being "positive" and blame us for our medical and physical issues not resolving because we aren't "positive enough." This video highlights a real problem in our culture!

The soulmate thing drives me crazy. It's the same as the saying "I'm not whole without you." Uh, yeah, you are. Be a whole person and if you find someone who can actually put up with you, cool. If not, who cares, keep being you.

About the "soulmate" thing, yes, nobody can be perfect. But if they can't even give you respect, understanding, and bare minimum care when you're sick or having an emotional breakdown, then it's not worth it.

I used to hustle nonstop, thinking I needed to be like the heroes in books. Discovering Wisebits stories showed me even fictional characters need downtime. Resting hard is definitely underrated.

"Fake it till you make it."—A fair amount of truth. Just remember: Any idea, no matter how great, if carried too far becomes absurd.

Calling out the law of attraction and this toxic positivity!!THANK YOU!!❤
