What the 1960's Did to the Catholic Church & Why the Tide Is Finally Turning (Fr. Perricone) Ep. 574

Matt Fradd

361,340 views

Fr. John A. Perricone entered seminary in 1968 and watched from the inside as the Catholic Church underwent its most catastrophic crisis in modern history: heresy taught openly in classrooms, thousands of priests abandoning the faith, and a generation of bishops who did nothing to stop it. Today, he sees the tide turning with many returning to these previously discarded traditions of the Catholic Church.

My childhood friend and I are converting to Catholicism at the age of 25, thanks be to God, after completing my year as a neophyte, I plan on starting discerning weather the Lord wants me to join the Priesthood, pray for me.

A priest wearing a cassock is like a knight wearing his armor and ready to do battle against the Devil and protecting his flock.
Father Perricone is correct about symbolisim and the importance in the Catholic Church.

Became Catholic at 73 years old. The HOLY SPIRIT is at work.

The fact the Church survived this and is even revitalising is a good sign of the protection of the Holy Spirit over Holy Mother Church.

I'm 75 and lived through ALL of this. Fr. is speaking TRUTH!

I’m 30. I became Catholic at Easter Vigil 2026. Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the Beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

My mother left the Catholic Church in 1958. She spent 12 years in Catholic schools before becoming a "Bible Believing Christian". Thankfully, my grandmother (Anne) prayed for me. I am 56 years old and have finally discovered the beauty and wonder of the Catholic faith. I am so exited to be entering the Church and feel I'm coming home. I pray for my mom to return to the Catholic faith. She is 85 years old. Please pray for her. Her name is Anne🙏

I am 62 and we had alter rails in my home town church of St Joseph in Louisiana. They were removed when I was 7 or 8 yrs old. Today the priest is bringing the alter rail back! And there are families in the community that still have the original marble columns from the old alter rail that was removed and they are donating them back to the church to be used in the restoration. The original alter rail was made of marble with about 24 columns across the alter area. This will be so beautiful when it is completed.

The Catholic Church I attend had been closed for years before it was reopened as the only TLM church in our area!

I became Catholic at this year’s Easter vigil, at the age of 40. I had very deep Protestant roots, but the church always pulled at me. The Holy Ghost is moving, and He is calling many home.

I’m 62 and I remember my parents being heartbroken at the change in the Liturgy. God bless them
All 5 of their daughters survived and stayed in the Church. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

As a 72 yr old cradle Catholic, I, too, am emotional and hopeful seeing the current priests being ordained. May they receive the courage they need from the Holy Spirit.
I am saddened by the number of friends who have left the Catholic Church. We can not leave Jesus for Judas. God bless you, Fr Perricone and Matt for this interview.

I’m a cradle Catholic, most my life I was a CINO Catholic or cultural, at best. Being badly formed, I squandered away my faith for most of my life for worldly allurements.

Eleven years ago, by the grace of God and the help of our Blessed Mother Mary, I fell in love with her Son, Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, reverted back to practicing our beautiful Catholic faith, and fully returned HOME to Holy Mother Church.

I was in Catholic high school when the changes in the 60's happened. We were born to be obedient and were swept up in the drastic changes but thought ok this is the way we are to pray the Mass now. Many years later in early 2000 or so our Parish priest ( who was ordained the the 1980s) began praying a Latin Mass. He met with many obstacles especially from our Bishop. It took years to be free to offer it at our Parish once on Sundays. Now the Latin Mass is the best attended Mass at our Parish. People come from long distances to attend. The young families with many children are a delight. The young men and women are so reverent. Even if the Mass lasts 2 hours no one leaves after until they kneel and pray in thanksgiving. I thank God for allowing me to (in my old age) experience again each week the Traditional Latin Mass.

At this moment in NZ I'd be happy if more priests wore black clerical shirt and pants. Please pray for the Catholic Church in NZ

If we lived in a more enlightened time, Fr. Perricone would be Cardinal-Archbishop of a major diocese

I'm proud to call Fr. Perricone my friend. I was his director of altar servers at the Church of St. Agnes in NYC circa 1991-92. What a great priest. He had a terrific Catholic men's club called 'Christe Fideles.' He also conducted AWESOME classic Ignatian retreats in Sloatsburg NY.

@sophiapostma4057 5 months ago

I am not even a half hour into this podcast. Fr. Perricone strikes me as a very holy man and I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this interview.

@wilecoyote2074 5 months ago

Born in 1964. Attended Catholic grammar and HS. I grew up with folk masses, felt banners, pant suit activists nuns, feel good retreats and liberalism.
Never properly catechized and eventually became a lapsed Catholic. Returned to the faith 20 years ago but still felt that disconnect from the church but not the true faith. Attended the TLM. The reverence in that mass is beautiful.

@thomasfinnegan9793 5 months ago

At 91 I am very lucky to have a young priest who’s NO Mass is very reverent, who is happy to wear his cassock, and who has brought many young college students into the church in the last few years.
