I am Gen. X, with Boomer Parents. My father graduated high school illiterate. He learned to read, before I was born, so he could teach me to read. He ended up teaching me linguistics and phonetics. If my illiterate father could teach me to read, then these parents can step up and teach their children.

Also spelling is like the first thing you learn after learning to speak and hold a pencil

The cheese lady was so gentle yet still stood on business and taught that kid. That’s some 10/10 teaching or parenting right there.

4:11 crazy how this mom explains this without screaming or cursing. I don’t normally agree with filming these kinds of interactions but she’s showing people something they DESPERATELY need to see.

My son has high intelligence autism and was not doing well in school. His school not only didn't have a nurse, they didn't even have chairs in the classroom. No desks. They just sat wherever. I could not believe it. I went one day to sit with him at school and they would watch educational YouTube videos, then were told to do work on laptops, then would sit wherever and color and do a few paper assignments. The entire day the teacher maybe did 15 minutes of an actual lecture, maybe...

I switched him to homeschool. He went from kindergarten reading level to 4th grade in 1 year. He can write now, and can read books.

His math was always very strong but he is now doing math at a 6th grade level.

He is starting 3rd grade.

I do have him in a state ran program so he will get a real diploma but it's so hard.

I'm a single dad that works full time and could greatly use the time that school provides to be more productive at work. I thought about putting him back in public school but I can't.

He received an award for being the most improved test scores in the state and one of the highest nationwide.

It's crazy. He also spends less time doing school during the day as he can work at his own pace.

He went from being told he needed special education at the start of the year to being labeled as gifted going into the next school year.

The biggest downside to all of this is he lacks any social interactions. I try to get playdates and parents act like I'm nuts or just say their kid doesn't like going outside. The only playdates I can find are virtual and it's so frustrating.

I tried scouts but I can't afford it and they won't give me a scholarship because I make too much. I make 45k a year but after chilsupport for my other kids, taxes and insurance I'm bringing home 20k a year. I have 25 years of management experience and I can't find another work option. I do need work at home which makes that harder.

I can't afford anything even karate classes that were free when I was a kid now cost monthly plus the uniform. We had programs growing up you just paid for the uniform.

I'm so tired of modern life. I want to go back to the 90s. It wasn't even that long ago. Life still had modern conviences but it was not like this...

These kids should NOT be passed on to the next grade.

3:55 this is truly gentle parenting. Not the permissive BS some parents do. She’s giving space for his emotions while making it clear that he would need to come up with the answer. Go mama!

Nah, the fact that i am reading stuff right now, and realising that most little kids aren't able to write/read, makes me scared for what books are gonna be written in the future bro
We're genuinely cooked 😭✌️

Again, this is not just Gen Alpha. I’m Gen X, my same niece I talked about before on here. Brought her vocabulary test in her folder to my parents’ house when I was there. She was so excited because she got 100% on it. She showed it to me, and most of the words were spelled incorrectly. I asked her about it and she told me, spelling didn’t count. Spelling didn’t count in her fourth grade English class for her vocabulary test. It’s only getting worse, but it’s been there for a long, long time. And I made her fix all the words and correctly spell them out so she would know how to spell them. Was she happy? no; did she do it? yes. Can she spell as an adult now? Yes, she can.

I used to tell students to write out every roast they spoke. They shut up quickly.

They didn't even HAVE spelling tests when I was in 8th grade because they expected us to KNOW HOW TO SPELL!

My school genuinely started and stopped teaching cursive in 3rd grade, didn’t even learn most capital letters because we only went over it for like 2 weeks

27:35 I went to a Catholic middle and high school. And one of the little life lessons they taught us was that if you don’t study for a test, you can’t just pray and ask for a good grade. Maybe he’ll help you a tiny bit, if you studied really hard, but not really. It’s your responsibility to learn. And it’s that mom’s responsibility to help her son

can’t believe someone’s daughter got punished just because she learnt that 3 x 5 is the same as 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 or 5 + 5 + 5, instead of using a method that sounds like something high schoolers would learn

It's not only on the schools to teach these kids, but the parents to help out as well. To, you know, PARENT?!

No child will be left behind if nobody ever moves ahead.

"At this point, might as well exploit these kids if idiocracy is coming so soon." - probably the government

As a Gen Alpha kid who struggles a lot in school, my mom would sit with me in her room and practice with me, she’d teach me multiplication, division, she practiced times tables with me, she printed out papers that showed the steps of long division and made me study that, she says education doesn’t stop after school, when she noticed me struggling with long division she explained it better than my teacher, one thing that can definitely help Gen Alpha students is parents helping teachers, my mom was right, education DOESN’T stop after school, parents need to teach their kids too.

'No child left behind' = no effort from any child.

I'm a senior student this year, and you would be SHOCKED how many freshmen don't know how to read for anything. I had to do a presentation with a few freshies as a project, and every other sentence they had me say a word for them or tell them how to say or speak it. Words like "Coastal, Discovery, Environment, Climate." It drove me insane, because these kids had genuinely tried. Jesus.
