“Guys, attack!”
“But it’s Garp!”
“He’s just a vice admiral, we’ll be fine!”
And they were never heard from again

To add insult to injury, remember that admirals have to come from somewhere, yet when the Marines were in need of new ones, in stead of promoting their vice admirals they chose outsourcing.

Vice Admirals are the low effort high exp battles you love to hunt down inside of RPGs

The more you read One Piece and realize how useless vice-admirals are, the smarter you think Garp is to be at this rank so no one gives a damn about him.

The fact that akainu became fleet admiral and immediately decided to outsource talent let’s you know all you need to know about VAs

Vice Admirals are the reason the world government needed the war lords in the first place. Someone needed to deal with the commanders while the admirals fight the yonko

This is a real life thing too, I think it's called 'the peter principle'. When you have the skills to succeed at one job you get promoted to the next where you might not necessarily have the skill to produce the results you did in your last position. Basically these Vice's might have been astounding captains, but now they're in over their heads and it's the rare Momonga or Doll who manages to keep pace.

Vice Admirals are almost as technically underwhelming as the bounty system with bounty hunters...

It’s basically the difference between the salary of a manager and a CEO in most companies

the title vice admiral is so cursed that even garp technically lost.

Vice Admirals are so realistic though, they get promoted until they peak and arent as good anymore(becoming the incompetent manager) and then for the admiral position they bring in someone else from somewhere else. Lowkey real life vibes. Then sometimes you have someone competent but that is a rarity.

The problem is that Oda skipped the rank of Rear Admiral.  Most of these characters should hold that rank.

Momonga is literally my favorite vice admiral ever since Amazon lily

Oda should’ve utilized lower ranks like rear admirals more. It’s funny that most of the named marines we see are vice admirals when realistically they should be one of the smaller categories of marines. Vice admirals should’ve been like the pacifista in pre-time skip. A seemingly insurmountable force that requires the corporation from a whole supernova pirate crew to even rival. Then during post-time skip only Yonko level characters should be one shotting Vice admirals.

I think it mostly happened because the original plan was to have the Yonko’s be the final villains. So maybe Oda didn’t think about saving the Vice admirals for future use.

I love it when a video reminds me that Robin has survived three Buster Calls. It's the equivalent of someone surviving three different nukes getting dropped.

Franky one-shotting a Vice Admiral on Egghead was just sad...for the Marines

One interpretation you might take with the Vice Admirals is that it's something of a test of one's ambitions and drive.  For many, it's going to be the highest they can climb, as the only way to rank up is for one of the three Admirals to vacate a position, and then for you to be recommended to fill that spot.  So for a majority at the Vice Admiral rank, they may have just opted to settle on their laurels, and thus never push themselves to improve, or even decline in capabilities.  Meanwhile the 'exceptions' like Mumunga, Doll, Bluegrass, ect, are the individuals who continue to push themselves in either a continual hope of one day advancing to the Admiral rank, or because of a strong sense of duty and self worth continuing to drive them.  Thus what you get with the Vice Admirals is a broad spectrum of capability.  That at least is a possible way to frame it in terms of the lore.  Narrative wise however, the point of the video still stands.

15:18 make sure Hancock doesn’t find out about that

Vergo was a legit threat. Loved the ruthlessness

It's still wild that more Captian level Marines have more solo Ws than the Vice Admirals
