Being a pub goer in the UK for over 30 years now I would never ever expected to see "British" pubs in Japan. It just looks like the most odd thing I've ever seen! Great video tho mate, really enjoyed watching!

That’s ok, most of us English are obsessed with your Gardens, engineering, cities, anime and culture.

The quality of the batter just shows how the Japanese knows how to cook super  quality food.

I knew the Japanese would know how to do battered fish properly. The Americans end up doing weird stuff to it like using breadcrumbs.

Great video. I’m off to Tokyo in two days. Didn’t think I’d be adding a visit to British pubs to my itinerary, but I’m now intrigued by your video.

The pub is a home outside the home for everyone in there, there should be pubs for old men playing dominoes, pubs with dogs under the tables, pubs for families, pubs for youngsters meeting their mates, pubs for friends to go for a few pints after a hard day’s work, pubs for youngsters to meet girls, pubs for a Sunday roast and pubs where you can just go for a quiet, contemplative pint.  If it’s done right it’s all the same pub.

Seems like starting a British pub in Japan would be more fruitful than starting a British pub in Britain these days.

I can remember visiting a British pub in Shibuya when I visited Japan back in 2014, it had been laid out more like a gastro pub but someone had clearly been to Britain since the look and vibe were spot on.

The menu was a very Japanese interpretation of British pub food with barely anything being recognisable, except for the "the fish and the chips" which to be fair, they'd even copied the "chips in a little basket" thing that was in vogue in the UK at the time

They had London Pride on tap, but clearly expected to provide table service - we'd walked straight to the bar to order.

Interesting to see it wasn't a quirky one off but part of a scene in itself.

I work in Japan all the time and we always hang out at the local HUB after work a lot - It's just easy to get a drink and has consistent service. Comparing it to Spoons is a fair shout. Never had the food though

They've got a theme park somewhere that is basically a mock British village as well

The fish and chips needs to be soggy with oil. But Japanese food is served at a high quality. So on average. I feel like, it won't be authentic but will generally just be better. As the deep fried bread will actually be crunchy and the fish would actually be fresh.

When Japan copies something, sometimes they just improve on it.

Americans love british pubs too, it's not just japan.

The Japanese are complete Anglophiles. Not a lot of people realize this.
It's not just England actually, they love things like Scottish tweed and it is incredibly expensive and sought after there (as is the whiskey).

I visited The Aldgate when holidaying in Japan six months ago, the same guy served my fish and chips as served yours !  I also went to a number of HUB pubs. Did you get a loyalty card? They cost nothing, you get one by just asking at the bar and from then on you can use it there or in any of the HUB chain for 5 per cent off prices.  BTW there's quite a few Irish pubs around as well, there was one in Shibuya quite near The Aldgate.

I went to Tokyo in 2011 and we went to a HUB. It had a little flyer on the table, explaining that you just wait and the bar and don't queue; authentic!

So I wait at the bar when a young woman came up to me and politely pointed out I had jumped the queue. Oh well, they did try.
