For me personally, The Poughkeepsie Tapes is the most disturbing, grueling, gut wrenching, tragic and brutal found footage film I’ve ever seen. Genuinely terrifying to me, which says a lot as I don’t scare easy. But this one got to me, it got under my skin, and to me is much more terrifying than any of the others. Here’s why.

It has no ghosts. It has no demon possessions. It has nothing supernatural in at all. But What it does have, is fckng real evil…the greatest and most prevalent, some say the only, evil of all….the evil that dwells in the sick minds and even sicker twisted souls amongst humanity’s most depraved evil persons. No it’s not real found footage. But the evil it depicts? Its. Evil. Is. Real.

Night Stalker, Dahmer, Bundy, Peter Scully, BTK. etc, etc. REAL MONSTERS, REAL EVIL. And there are human monsters like them living amongst us today, unknown and not yet revealed. Going about their sick business, in our midst, us completely unaware of the darkness they enfold. And THAT is terrifying indeed. THAT is real evil. THAT is real horror. It taps into that, and brilliantly so. And it’s what makes this film such an effective accomplishment. And a film I will never be able to erase from my subconscious.

If you’ve not seen it (beware, the whole film is a trigger warning), and you think you can handle it, give it a watch. Made in the mid 00’s, It’s available now on streaming platforms. When for years you could only get it in bootlegged screener dvd’s as it never actually received distribution to theaters after its premier at TriBeCa. I urge you watch the trailer first. Then If you choose to watch it, remember, you were warned.

Edit: neither of you had it on your lists 😂🤣

Seeing Paranormal Activity in the theater was definitely an experience. Especially with the use of infrasound. It came out when I was in high school so my friends and I would go see any horror movies that were out. So we didn't have any expectations and it was awesome. We were so freaked out while walking through my friend's house in the dark afterwards lol.

I love love love this video. I'll defend found footage forever, these are some awesome picks.
My rankings that no one asked for:
10. The Den
9. Digging Up the Marrow
8. Afflicted
7. Paranormal Activity
6. Grave Encounters
5. Cloverfield
4. Poughkeepsie Tapes
3. VHS94 or #1
2. Blair Witch
1. Creep

Finally someone else who's seen the last horror movie, I never see anyone talk about it.

And every time I mention it as an underrated movie I always get "never heard of it"

Finally, someone who's seen and appreciates "Exhibit A". Such a rarity. It may not be my top FF favorite but it's easily the best acted FF film I've ever seen. It's both disturbing and heartbreaking in equal parts.

Love the lists, guys! There's a couple I haven't seen. Gonna try to find them to watch later.  I also love Hell House LLC, so you're not alone there George.  I gotta get Bel to watch it.  That would be a fun Halloween reaction for us.

I can confirm there was definitely a film called creep set in the London Underground I think it was? I saw it years and years ago and ever since I’ve never been able to find anyone else that’s seen or heard of it and I was convinced I’d made it up for a while

The Poughkeepsie Tapes should've been on the list!!!!

great ranking im gonna watch one or two of this list

Ok I NEED TO watch Something in the Dirt after that review! 😆 Thanks for my evening plans tonight!

Y'all this was such a fun video to do, and as always Hail Raatma!!

Please watch Lake Mungo!

Yesssss! “Unfriended” made the list! Going in, I was curious if it would be mentioned. I knew V/H/S would be making an appearance. I only have not seen the 4th one, but I’ll male sure that happens this week after this, haha. The only movie that I was curious if it would be mentioned and wasn’t is “The House October Built.” 🎃

The other film creep was based on the London Underground. Decent film also.

Can someone please suggest me some creepy horror found footage or documentaries?

Agreed with a lot of these picks, and I also have a few new ones to watch. I would have added Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum because it definitely creeped me out, and how they incorporated the found footage style was innovative. I'm a sucker for a haunted asylum or hospital, though.

My top 20 without Blair Witch:
1. [Rec] (2007)
2. What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
3. Afflicted (2013)
4. Grave Encounters (2011)
5. Hell House LLC (2015)
6. Paranormal Activity (2007)
7. V/H/S (2012)
8. Europa Report (2013)
9. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)
10. Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018)
11. The Visit (2015)
12. As Above, So Below (2014)
13. Butterfly Kisses (2018)
14. Exists (2014)
15. Leaving D.C. (2012)
16. Willow Creek (2013)
17. The Bay (2012)
18. Host (2020)
19. The Conspiracy (2012)
20. The Pyramid (2014)

Awesome video.  I am so stoked He'll House LLC was at the Top.  For me it's 3 behind PA and BW but it's as scary a found footage out there.  Neither had Lake Mungo though which is an All timer.  Thanks for the video

Thanks

Love the lists you two came up with and even got to add a couple of movies to my watchlist. 💕 One FF movie that doesn't get enough love, in my mind at least, is The Possession of Michael King. Maybe I'm the only one who likes it though? 🤷
