"Melee vs Brawl"
NSMB and Smash 4 renders in the thumbnail
...

That moment when the Mario art they used in the thumbnail isn't from Melee OR Brawl.

Did he just say that Melee didn't have stage hazards?

All the nostalgia for melee is coming back! I remember the sleepovers with friends and all the fun! man... time flies. being an adult now is so much stress.

I think brawl has so much more atmosphere than all of them, including wiiU

A real smash brother has respect for all smash games.

Woah, Woah, WOAH! Did you just say brawl looks like a cartoony version of Melee? Don't the characters look more realistic with ragged clothes and all the details?

Melee fans : YES!

Brawl fans : NO!

Middle Ground : Can't we have different opinions?

Melee and Brawl fanboys : NO.

Wait a minute...
This video is just a guy shitting on Brawl

A couple of observations:

1) Brawl lasted me several year and even to this day has not sat around long enough to collect dust. I occasionally go back to Melee just for nostalgia's sake but Brawl has, more or less, taken its place for me.
2) The whole Egoraptor/Sequelitis schtick of "The game teaches you how to play it" is bullshit... Well, at least with the examples that you gave. While airdodging might be something a casual player would eventually pick up on, it would be very very very unlikely for any sort of casual player to discover wavedashing by sheer happenstance. Most people find out about it through hardcore Melee fans and, even after they learn about it, it's not the sort of thing that you can consistently pull off right after learning how to do it.
3) Tripping has never been a huge deal for me. Sure, it's a stupid feature that should not have been added but I've had very few (if any) instances where it proved detrimental. It's more of a minor nuisance than anything.
4) Brawl may have different mechanics than Melee but it rewards players in pretty much the same way that you described. Combos, learning how to master a character, etcetera, etcetera... It's all possible in Brawl, it's just slightly different. Plus with more characters, more stages, and more diversity between these elements (I'm mostly talking about very similar clone characters taking up nearly half the roster to... not that) there are just that many more rewards for players.
5) The title of the video is pretty deceptive. It asks a question, implying that you would go through the pros and cons of both games equally but you focus almost entirely on Melee's positives while quickly dashing through its negatives at super sonic speed at the end, as if they're irrelevant.

If you like Melee more than Brawl, that's fine and dandy but your stance of "I will present my argument of how Melee is better and it will sway even the biggest Brawl fan to overwhelmingly support Melee" paints a clear picture of not knowing how arguments work. The fact of the matter is that Melee is a more advanced fighter but Brawl has more content. The divide between these games exists not because one of them is clearly superior and the other side is in denial, but because they succeed in different areas and some people are drawn to one style of gameplay over the other.

Hopefully, Smash 4 will resolve much of this debate as it seems to be taking elements of both to make a great entry for Melee and Brawl fans alike. Until the Wii U release though, happy 3DS Smashing.

Brawlers are gonna hate hate hate

My personal favorite game in the series is 64,when this was released, but now it's definitely Sm4sh.

That Zelda's Lullaby was good.

When Sakurai adds Melee's mechanics to Smash 4. Smash 4 is all of a sudden BETTER than Melee. Smh

I like Melee for the single player Adventure mode that put the player through classic Nintendo feel and magic from other games that features the characters but using the Smash Bros engine.

The Brawl I loved seeing the storyline of how each of the characters interacted with each other.

I think with Smash Bros 4 being on both 3DS and Wii U, with a possibility of being ported to the NX systems so I guess each Smash Bros game is going to be special in some way to some players depending on who plays which version.

With me being an N64 and Gamecube generation, I love Melee as well as appreciating what Brawl brought to the table with the weaknesses that came to it.

64: Put the game on the map
Melee: Established the competitive side of the series and proved it viable in big name tournaments while also expanding the single player modes and the roster
Brawl: Got Final Smashes a ton of very niche and wanted characters and introduced 3rd parties for the 1st time
Sm4sh: Custom moves, DLC, Being on a handheld for the first, and proving the most unlikely but successful and deserving franchises can get characters and truly proved anyone is possible to add to the roster (Specificall looking at the 3rd parties and Wii Fit Trainer)

All games are a progression in the series and truly are not ment to be compared to each other. Sure we can discuss the competitive side of melee all day or the fun of Brawl or nostalgia of the original but the fact is that they are fun to someone somewhere and thats all that matters. Now instead of discussing the negatives of each game, Why cant we just play them?

I think it takes more skill to play with obstacles. When you have multiple levels and some moving platforms it takes more strategy and map awareness. It shows that you've mastered more than your character and controls. If you take out items based on chance and arenas that have random obstacles I believe items and obstacles can be just as competitive as playing with no items and Final Destination.

But overall Nintendo doesn't like to make their games for competition they like yo play make them for fun, which is why they made Brawl less competitive. But the New Smash Bros shows that Nintendo is embrassing competition in their games and with the Switch trailer it shows that with Splatoon they are taking competition in their games more seriously. So if you think that Smash 4 is still not as competitive as Melee, I think the next Smash Bros might be the most competitive game.

I feel like Smash 4 is like the lovechild of Brawl and Melee.

Sigh, us Brawl players are always left out...
