5:38 - The tip guard is there for a reason. When making normal cuts with a chainsaw, the guard prevents rebounding. If an inexperienced user starts making the cut with the tip of the chainsaw, the chainsaw can rebound up and over into the user's face.

Since these chainsaws don't have a traditional chain brake, to prevent the saw from running while rebounding; this can get very ugly and very messy, very quickly. The guard up front is a brilliant solution to the problem of rebounding. The vast majority of users simply aren't going to use the tip intentionally pointed straight down. Not with a pruning chainsaw.

I was skeptical of the nose guard on the DeWalt, but after using it I find it useful. You can move faster, you can use it for undercutting quickly, you don’t ever have to worry about going in the ground and damaging the chain. And if you don't like it, it can be removed.

Great testing, but you not included the bosch gke 18v - 20. I recently purchased this bosch one, very good saw, design similar to the milwaukee, very powerful, much better than my makita 18v one, which is very sensitive to load. The bosch also include the kickback control, a nice safety feature. I like the stihl, very nice and smooth cuts and more power with two batteries.

Hi there, nice review as always guys! There is a good reason some chain saws use a blade tip protector, like Dewalt, Bosch universal chainsaws etc. If you try to cut let's say a small branch from the upper side of the chain, automatically the chainsaw wants to "push" forward and away that branch. So if the chainsaw has that front blade tip, it will "block" that branch there and cut it. :) Greetings from Greece!

I have an Echo gas chainsaw with a 24" bar and a smaller Makita cordless with a 16" bar, but my favorite tool for smaller cutting and pruning is my Makita reciprocating saw. Blades are cheap, last a long time, don't need sharpening, and can run in dirt without the dulling of a chain. It's not as smooth and elegant as a baby chainsaw but so much simpler. No oiler, change blades in a minute, quick and powerful. Also much less expensive if you already have a good reciprocating saw and batteries.

i removed also the Chain protection (echo system) of my Pruner right after some days. It's just annoying while working.

The tip protection is useful to cut smalle branches with the Upperside of the chain. The branch stays behind the tip and cuts quit smoothly

That’s crazy pricing of the Echo 3006X / with 2x 2.5 amp hour batteries and charger is 220 £ in Canada or $399 Canadian.
That UK pricing is out to lunch!!

I bought the milwaukee at a hardware store today for 1/2 off, mainly because I have those tools and batteries. I was looking at the stihl until the salesperson showed me the milwaukee. Saved a lot of cash.
