GAHHHHH I am so excited to release this video!! I've been wanting to YAP about this for a minute now!! PLAY GAMES!! LAUGH, SMILE, HAVE FUN!!! STOP DOOMING!!! YAY!!!!

Only things like Twitter and TikTok could come up with a term like friendslop, implying that just having fun with your friends is bad

Now that I think about it, some of these games feel like the modern equivalent of Gary's Mod w/ the boys at 2am and it's great to see

a good name for the genre that is not insulting is "friend-core"

And now mecca chameleon too!

what makes Peak even better is that both dev studios that worked on it, Landfall and Aggro Crab, are run by the kinds of people that just fucking make whatever games they want for the hell of it, and they're all bangers

Many people owe “Friendslop” their lives for making their dwindling relationships with their friends stronger than they could’ve been if they just played normal games with them.

To quote one of therussianbadger’s vids, “I was promised friend SLOP, where is it?”

What they call friendslop now used to just be a called a party game back when people actually got together in person.

$8.00, that's just 5 bucks.

I feel like "friendlike" was an inevitable game genre, but covid, short form content, the random popularity of Among Us during covid, and the drama and corruption in the AAA industry definitely sped up it's introduction and spotlighting.
Its also worth noting that a lot of the titans of the gaming industry probably aren't happy with the direction indie games are going in

The first time I played Peak with my friends, I "accidentally" ate my friend and then fell 100ft to my death 10 minutes later.

When my cousins, siblings, and I try to get together to play, we realized quickly that BG3 or Enshrouded just don't fit the need. It was difficult to begin these big adventure games when we are 5 adults with different schedules in different time zones. Friendlike games quickly became our go-to because of how easy they are to pick up and play for half an hour to two hours and have a couple weeks gap between sessions without feeling lost or forgetting what we were doing next. We can just gamble in a silly casino, take pictures of birds, and sabotage each other as a laugh without it being too serious or overwhelming. I need this genre to continue

Pros: funny
Cons: need friends

you had me fully convinced Hammer Rat was a real game. it needs to exist now

friendlike is a very wholesome name for a genre i like it a lot

Maybe the real achievement was the friends we made along the way.

"And that genre is-" gets a gambling ad

To paraphrase Gabe Newell:
"Is the game fun?"

Back before we had smartphones, the couch co-op was king where parents dropped off their kids to a friend's place with some spending money for pizza and they would stay up all night.
