Angela and Nick are joined by an actor who seriously knows his way around a kitchen (and a chopping board).
Nick Frost – actor, comedian and screenwriter – stops by Dish just after the release of his new film How To Train Your Dragon, a live action take on the beloved animated series based on Cressida Cowell’s books. The movie sees him star as the popular blacksmith Gobber alongside Gerard Butler, Mason Thames and Nico Parker.
You’ll likely know Nick from his iconic roles in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End), created with long-time collaborator and pal Simon Pegg. He also starred with Pegg in cult TV comedy Spaced, and has appeared in Attack the Block, Paul, Truth Seekers, Green Wing, The Adventures of Tintin, and Fighting With My Family (alongside Florence Pugh).
Before acting, Nick worked as a chef – and that love of food has clearly never left him. His cookbook-come-memoir A Slice of Fried Gold (now out in paperback) is filled with stories and comfort food recipes from a life spent loving the kitchen.
Having crossed paths with Angela once before, Nick finally gets to sit down properly with her (and other Nick) over a delicious meal of spicy barbecued lamb with minty tomato & watermelon relish, with Angela marinating the meat overnight for extra flavour. While Nick stuck to a cold Fanta, our Waitrose experts recommend pairing the meal with a glass of PepperBox Shiraz.
At our request, Nick brought his favourite kitchen knife into the studio for a very real chopping demonstration, come ‘Chop Off’ with Angela! Expect talk on the importance of a clean kitchen, some very specific quickfire answers, and how Nick developed custard trauma!

We can’t all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she’ll try to answer in a future episode.
