House of the Dragon Season 3 had all the ingredients to be one of the biggest seasons of the series, but for me, it ultimately became a season defined more by spectacle than substance.
In this full Season 3 review, I break down the season as a whole—from its structure and pacing to the writing, character arcs, adaptation choices, and the way the show continues to divide its own fandom. I go through the major plotlines and explain where I think the season succeeds, where it falls apart, and why so many of its biggest moments feel hollow despite the scale and production value behind them.
I also look at how the show has adapted Fire & Blood, the changes that have helped or hurt the story, and why Season 3 increasingly feels like it is prioritizing shocking moments, battles, and spectacle over the political depth, character work, and emotional payoff that made this story compelling in the first place.
With the season now complete, this is my full breakdown of what worked, what didn’t, and why I think House of the Dragon may be losing sight of what made the story interesting to begin with.
