Today, I’m taking my two little daughters to a local Vietnamese market with only $5 to prepare our family dinner.

With just five dollars, what can we buy?

We walk through the lively local market, explore fresh vegetables, herbs, seafood, and everyday Vietnamese foods. Along the way, my two girls also discover one of their favorite treats — Vietnamese sweet dessert!

With our $5 budget, we buy tofu for $0.50, tomatoes and soybeans for $1.50, and grilled mackerel for $3.

Back home, we turn these simple ingredients into three homemade dishes: grilled mackerel with tomato sauce, garlic stir-fried soybeans, and fish-sauce fried tofu.

It’s a simple meal, but for me, these ordinary moments with my two daughters are some of the most precious parts of life.
