Over the past year, a noticeable wave of young Israeli travelers has arrived in Siargao island, many coming directly from their military service, straight from warzones like Gaza. Some come to surf or recover, drawn to Siargao’s beauty and relative peace. But their presence, often marked by aggressive behavior, loud partying, and a disregard for local customs, has begun to unsettle the community.

I am a Filipino. All I want to say is that if you visit the Philippines, you should respect the locals and respect the law. I am just keeping it real. If you want to visit the Philippines, by all means necessary, come visit and experience the beauty of the country, but do not try and play around the system and extending your tourist visa and trying to live permanently. If you want to visit then just visit and do not overstay. If you plan to live permanently then there is an option for an immigrant visa (13 Quota) and non-immigrant visa (SRRV). The fact is, the country is already struggling. When more and more foreigners flood into the country, it can drive up demand and contribute to the rising cost of living. Yes, you are helping business owners—and they are making more money. But many are also taking advantage of the increased demand by raising their prices. Think about the numbers: there are only so many small business owners, compared to millions of local people who have to live with the consequences of rising prices. At the end of the day, who suffers? The locals. Tourism should benefit everyone, not just business owners and investors. If the cost of living keeps rising while local wages remain low, then the very people who call this country home are the ones being pushed further behind.

Siargao became a popular R&R spot for the IDF chayalim on leave post-Gaza and Lebanon stints. No different from US servicemen on R&R from Vietnam raising hell in Olongapo and Angeles back in the '60s. Okinawa had its share of similar problems, so did La Maddelena in the '90s.. Law enforcers are cautious about upsetting the flow of income for the business owners. Anyway, if Abu Sayyaf, Dawlah Islamiyah or Maute group decide to get involved things can get very ugly in no time.

You’re a plant. You know very well that Israelis are land grabbers. You don’t get to lecture us on how we perceive outsiders’ actions. After Spain, US, Britain, Japan, China, we expect Israel to invade and conquer the Philippines because they know for a fact that the what they thought was the Promise Land was actually just a dirt lot.

Do yourself a favor and stop the gaslighting the Filipinos. You know our history with foreigners. We love you until we don’t. And that’s not good for you.
