If I was taught this at the beginning of my guitar journey I'd be making the videos not watching them.

My man, I love how he throws the trem in that lesson. I mean, that's the difference between a master teacher and somebody just teaching.

After 20 years of struggling and noodling around it all clicked! You definitely earned a subscriber and hit a home run!

I love the way you show all this connective tissue …across the fretboard and if you have that under your fingers …wow …this neighborhood is no longer a maze….Thanks:hand-orange-covering-eyes:

This is my story too! Been playing for decades yet only a couple of years back I heard of caged and pentatonics amd arpeggios vit the bullet and tried not to grind my teeth learning the shapes haha but now linking them all together is the objective.. Subbed! Thank you! 😎🙏👼🕊

I personally understand it better by calling out intervals vs notes as you mentioned in the comments. Knowing the intervals is the key. I used to avoid knowing them, but now I see the light!

The internet is flooded with videos on triads, caged etc recently, but Jeff always delivers an interesting perspective and practical means to make it musical too.

Amazing. You make it so clear. Took me forever to get to this lightbulg moment as well.

Thanks for the beginner lead guitar techniques ( "movable CAGED" chord demonstrations) where we played more towards changeable chord tone [ triad 1, 3, 5, nth ...] / scale connections. Gone are the days we used to play crazy guitar scale mode or one shape pentatonic soloing over every chord changes that doesn't jives very much (harmony / melody / rhythm). The things that I wished my guitar teacher should have taught us more towards beginner's level like : [ Playing of bass notes / power chords / Dyads / triads / jazz voicing / movable Caged system / pentatonic scale (five musical notes) /etc ...].

This is really great stuff! Understanding the CAGED system really opened up the fretboard for me and my playing soared from there. What remains challenging for me is following the chord changes and hitting the chord tones, especially when there is more than 3 chords to the song. I default to the pentatonic or major scale in that key. My ear is not fully developed to pick up on those changes, yet. Thanks, Jeff for all the insight!

SUPER!!!

Yeah like you and many others I learned cowboy chords and scale shapes from books. It was okay, I had fun playing, but I knew I wasn't getting where I wanted to get in my guitar journey. Now at 74 years old I thank god I'm still learning. 🤣 You're right I wish someone had taught me this approach 60 years ago, it would've saved me a lot of heartache. A well structured lesson that I'm sure will help many people progress from beginner to intermediate players.
