DISCLOSURE DAY - An Extraterrestrial Conspiracy Thriller

Disclosure Day had the promise of a classic Spielberg picture and a return to the “aliens are among us” heyday of Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and War of the Worlds. The premise is that a former private contractor steals classified evidence proving decades of alien contact and goes on the run from a powerful corporation trying to bury it, while a Kansas City woman suddenly begins displaying strange psychic abilities that propose she is tied to the same extraterrestrial mystery in ways she does not yet understand. As the two storylines begin to converge, the film sets up the possibility of a world-changing revelation that could upend politics, religion, and humanity’s whole understanding of its place in the universe. And yet for all its big ideas, eerie imagery, and genuinely intriguing setup, the film never becomes as gripping, profound, or emotionally satisfying as it keeps promising. It wants to be a conspiracy thriller about hidden extraterrestrial contact. A spiritual allegory about revelation, faith, and the limits of human understanding. It also wants to be a fugitive chase film, a newsroom drama, and a story about empathy as the next stage of human evolution. That is a lot to fit inside one frame. Spielberg is reaching for something larger than a basic “government hid the UFO files” movie. He is trying to tell a story about what happens when the biggest secret in history comes to light at the precise moment humanity is already poised to destroy itself. But the film spends so much time circling mystery, significance, and destiny that it forgets to give the story the dramatic force and payoff needed to make those ideas truly land. The movie is called Disclosure Day, but it ends before we see the fallout of Disclosure Day.

I'm also reminded of a certain scene in the first 'Men in Black' movie:
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. 1500 years ago, everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow."
Thats where it really missed the mark.
Most people know the mainstream media has been bought and paid for.
