I reached out to DJ in one of my darkest moments, not expecting to hear back, within minutes he was responding, listening, and helping me get out of it. I know he has done the same for many other people like me. Thankful for DJ.

Very cool and so humble man.
Thanks for your thoughts and opening up with your family as well.
Full respect for those huge achievements.

His description of a skater describes it best. The best skaters are the ones who get hurt trying and keep trying. It takes a crazy mindset to keep going past the failure.

This is a man who excelled at what only 00.0% of the population could do, he is inspirational alright, but the fact that he even doesn’t count his own son, like he doesn’t exist … tells a lot about a man to be honest.

I am very happy DJ went to Mexico and the treatment is helping. I really hope he and Don Shipley will iron out the issues they're having.

I’m a prior Navy BM2 and prior law enforcement. I came home from work one day and sat on the edge of the bed and put a pistol to the side of my head and just as I was about to squeeze off the round to end my life, I felt a hard thud hit me in my back. My wife had laid our infant son on our bed and I hadn’t even realized it. He had stirred in his sleep and kicked me.

I was so sacred the bullet might bounce and hurt him that I began to shake uncontrollably and fell to the floor sobbing. He saved my life with that kick.

I got help and spent 10 years homeless and fighting my demons the entire time after my wife left me and took the kids. That little infant son of mine is 16 now and I’m homeschooling him in my own house.

I lost both my parents young in my life. I’m in my late 40s now and it’s been 25 years without my mother and 15 without my father. And there’s not a day that goes by where I don’t wish I could speak to them again. Right now you have GOLD DJ, absolute GOLD! Wife, kid, parents, that’s GOLD brother! And you’re squandering away time and memories. And the unspoken words of today will be the ones that burn you the most tomorrow when they’re gone. Make up with your folks. Go fishing with the old man and hug your mother and make it right. Make those memories and hold onto them.

You’re gonna die one day yourself and that’s when you get to rest. You don’t need to speed it along. Stay for your son so that he can have a life without all the grief and pain. Otherwise you’re putting your load on him to carry all alone in his life without you around.  And that’s a very heavy crucifix made up of of the weight of loss and pain to carry on his back that you’d be putting on him. You carry your load DJ till the good Lord relieves you of it. And that will come when it comes. Till then, pick up your shit and get to steppin in a positive direction and make it count! Start by calling your folks. You don’t want regrets and they don’t deserve to die with any either. Time is ticking. And “Time” by Pink Floyd is what I want you to listen to.

The moment he said his work success meant more to him than his kids and marriage I knew he was gonna have a hard time with home life

Wow! AWESOME show and just an AWESOME man! DJ, I wish you ALL THE BEST!

His parents are A beautiful couple, hope they can heal the rift!

Cool story, bro. Now go be a father to that little innocent boy.

What incredible human beings DJ and his wife are! I am so INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL to these warriors who protect our country. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all who have served, who have sacrificed, who have been injured and those who died doing their job. Thank you to all the wives who have held down the fort at home caring for children and praying their soldier/sailor or airman comes home. I’m in awe that you love your man so much that you loved him despite when they are hard to love because of his anger, because of drinking, because of anger and infidelity. You are NEVER ALONE!  Dont’t believe the lies of Satan. Your family needs you, they love you, your fellow warriors need you to be whole and HERE, and your country is behind you ALL THE WAY, because you have been out front in the trenches to protect us. Thank you for being one of the great, strong, tough as nails, brave men that you have been.  You are home now, lay down your burdens, relax, and find rest in Jesus Christ.

I don't give a crap what his "job" was in the Navy; treating his son and parents like he does says everything about him.  He's not as big and bad as he thinks he is.  I say that as a Navy veteran

Stay strong soldiers. Remember you are heroes who are much loved

to come from tha loins of greatness in tha navy to become tha worlds biggest douche is crazy

Hearing his story the first time made me want to tear up especially the way he explained everything and this video does the same especially with his wife going along and explaining everything. Beautiful wife and a strong wife all men deserve

"If your presence isn't missed when you're gone, were you ever present at all? If they don't feel a void when you're not there, were you ever really there to begin with?"
This quote absolutely hit me right in the gut!

Hey DJ.I am a former SSBN MT that was in during the 90's and although the only thing I knew about Navy SEALS (at that time anyways) was in bootcamp in 92 where 3 of my bootcamp company shipmates were gonna tryout for them. Our company 909 instructor made those 3 PT more than any of us too.Dont know if they made it or not.

Love your story, grit, powerfulness, your service and also you,Danny and Patsys story. Stay strong shipmate and were the toughest military in the fkin world thanks to guys like you and my fellow submariners of course. We both lived in murky worlds which we keep quiet.

Oh btw,is Virginia Beach still great?? I've considered moving back there. Thanks brother

D.J.,  Call your mom. Fix that broken heart while you can.

I took a lot from this. I wasn’t in the army, but as a young man lived a hedonistic lifestyle while I lived with my fiancé. Numerous one night stands in our house, drugs, etc. I eventually became ill, anxiety, depression, etc. I went for counselling and I vividly remember the session where I talked about our relationship and faced the truth that I wanted my freedom. I think a lot of my issues were rooted in my childhood and being a rugby player the drinking and macho culture I bought into. Some things I did still haunt me from time to time and it was 40 years ago. There has to be a point where you challenge that guilt and accept that you are simply not the same person anymore, you’ve paid your dues and the person that did those things wasn’t the real you anyway. I hope you find peace and can learn to love yourself because the fact you feel that guilt indicates you’re not really a bad person, because they can’t feel those things. All the best.

To both of you and your whole family, god bless you. Moving forward I hope only the best for you
