This video should be shown in art classes everywhere. Beautifully explained artistic processes and acceptance of one's own gifts and the ability to grow and appreciate, but not revere pieces to the point of not moving on and maturing.
Just stunning teaching here.. from a true creative. Thank you for the life lesson. X
Your weekend videos play a major part in my morning chill-time. I make my breakfast then watch whilst eating. Honestly the worst part of each vid is when the screen fades to black and the thank you message appears. I always feel a sense of calm when watching them.
I'm sure a lot of amateur and professional bookbinders will be coming out of the woodwork to give endless advice on how to "improve" your working process. So I'll be the first. To make life easier for yourself, you could try running the thread over a lump of beeswax so that it doesn't tangle up so much. The books are beautiful.
your art books were a part of my process in figuring out what to do with all the precious artwork my 4 yr old has brought home from preschool. wanting to keep them but also not being able to cope with the chaos of all the different sizes and materials, ive started making them into uniform, folded piles, and will need to figure out a different method for binding, but your books are so tactile and satisfying they really helped me on my mission!
I have watched several "professional" book binding process on Youtube but yours i love the most 😊 because is raw, you use the edge of your work bench to poke the holes, not too OCD which can be intimidating to follow.
One tip for making the holes—use a paper clip or bulldog clip to clip the papers together when you’re poking your holes to keep the signatures in place—it helps hold them steady, especially when the pages are different sizes.
I was literally just thinking about how would I bind my typewritten rough draft for my novel/fic and this just gave me the idea of how I'd incorporate the diary sections and any concept art within it.
NEVER throw them away! I had similar scrapbooks where I kept my ideas, and being military I moved 23 times. I had to go to a small apartment during one tour and had to downsize. I parted with my books and regret it now at 64 years! Now being retired, and purchasing my final home this month, I’m getting rid of clothes and pots and pans but never my art supplies! 😂 Pinterest is now my scrapbook.
I think the sacred is allowing ourselves to let go of our inhibitions that keep us from exploring and growing our skills and creativity. It's when we free ourselves enough to open that we discover what lights us up!
Rewatching on this stormy Sunday morning in the Southwest of France as I'm making my very first sketchbook. Learning the Coptic stitch method. Small A6 size with white drawing paper. Very gratifying to make this book. Your video inspired me to finally try this after years of saying "some day". What is most inspiring to me is your method of putting anything and everything that inspires you into your journals instead sticking to clean white empty pages. Now that I understand how to do this, I'm going to follow your lead and make my own artist's book to match my own visions. Thank you!🙂 PS. I'm also going to pay more attention to collecting seeds from my garden this Autumn
I will never do this, but it was fascinating to watch you work and create a magnificent object. I am glad that there are people out there who have such skill.
