My military ration nightmare has finally arrived. It’s time to man up and tackle the most infamous U.S. MRE menu: Cheese and Veggie Omelet. This breakfast-inspired field ration is vile in appearance, smell, and taste, and the entrée was so disliked by American troops, it earned the nickname “Vomelet” (short for Vomit-Omelet). Despite my reputation for eating just about anything, I’ll admit — this Meal Ready to Eat actually scares me. This particular example was packed back in 2007, so it’s getting pretty vintage at this point. This dreaded combat ration haunted soldiers for four long years — from 2005 to 2008 — and it’s safe to say it won’t be missed.

ive actually had a few of these, the secret is to mix up the egg and taters, toss some hot sauce on it and if you can scrounge up some cheese, they really dont taste bad. i think this thing got a bad rap because troops werent willing to or just to lazy to give it a little boost. these things packed almost 300 kal and could keep you going.

I am almost tempted to get a bunch of veggie omelet MREs for cheap, so I can turn my body into an efficient veggie omelet processing machine out of pure spite.

Once upon a time, while on detail, I remember discovering a box of mres excited to pick through the menus only to find that the entire box was stripped down menu number 4s... Even the cinnamon scones were missing from all of them... My disappointment cannot be put into words

And FYI making sure it's well heated was the damn least of your concerns with that garbage. Old, new, no matter, those were ALWAYS a health risk.

During my Tours in Iraq, yes, the vomlet was the most avoided ration. I loved the spiced cider mix, and I was lucky enough to get plenty as others in my squad disliked it, so I ended up getting theirs. Thanks for showing eveyone the nastiness of menu option 4. And yes we all said the same thing back then as to how did it ever make it through testing and into the field.

I don’t think I ever seen a soldier eat one. I remember finding boxes of opened MRE full of veggie omelette while out at NTC.

The rear echelon troops need to be taught how to eat MRE’s like the Infantry. Mix the stuff up, use the Tabasco and salt, and just eat it and drive on. They aren’t that bad.

apple butter is very common in Pennsylvania as an Amish food. it's supposed to be a dark brown color and is made by slow cooking apples so the sugar caramelizes.

Bro….I absolutely love your videos, and you are a champ for taking that ration down. lol! The way you describe the flavors is how a review should be done. P.S… I actually enjoy the spinach and fettuccine Alfredo, as long as it’s hot anyway. I’ve warmed up and added a broken up slice of white snack bread to the spinach Alfredo before and it was almost like dumplings. Keep up the great work. 😊

Canada had the Omlette in mushroom sauce and the Omlette with salsa. They were nicknamed the lung in a bag. I'm betting they were pretty close to this but to be honest, they weren't too bad in my opinion. The mushroom.sauce was really good.

You can buy packages of just the powdered apple cider at most grocery stores especially in the fall

We had the omelette with ham during desert storm we called it the vomlette too but we had Au Gratin potatoes and we mixed them with the omelette with the Tabasco sauce.
