"they're attracted to each other and they speak in riddles" I love that

“You know this time period is so romanticized because you can’t smell it”, immediately locked me in.

A Mrs. Bennett, a Miss Bennett, a Miss Bennett, a Miss Bennett.

This is surprisingly one of the most perceptive reactions to this movie i've ever seen

"He gets nervous around pretty girls"
Literally Mr. Bingley's entire personality in one sentence.

YOU DON‘T KNOW HOW MUCH I PRAYED FOR THIS REACTION

"The British are coming, the British- oh wait, we're all British."
😂😂😂

This was actually a fantastic male perspective of this film, and I really enjoyed getting this viewpoint. You guys actually got the emotional context of the story really well, and also understood a lot about the appeal if Mr Darcy.

I think my favourite part was when Nick was like "He's so respectful too. Omg, he's perfect." and just seemed to be expressing genuine delight at a man respecting a woman, and them finally getting together.

I think I expected more jokes kind of making fun of it, but it felt like you guys fully immersed in the story, understood more than many reactors do, and had a perspective that felt like it was coming from good men who genuinely like and respect women themselves. So thank you for this! Probably one of my favourite reactions from you both!

“Who’s Kent?”😂

The mother actually do care about her daughters a lot and that is why she is so focused on getting them married. The family has no sons so when the father dies before the daughters are married the estate and all the money would go to the next male heir aka mr Collins. The mother and daughters would then have no money or a home.

None of the adaptations I’ve seen make it very clear, but basically Wickham had to flee the regiment because his debts from gambling were mounting up and he had to skip town to avoid the consequences of not paying them, and he only took Lydia with him because she was young and naive enough to believe he’d marry her and he just wanted a companion and an easy lay before ditching her once she was no longer worth keeping around. She didn’t have the sort of fortune that would tempt him to try and marry her like he tried with Georgiana, the only reason he ended up marrying her in the end was Darcy paying him to, and Darcy did that because Lydia had already slept with and been living alone with him, and if she did all of that and he didn’t end up marrying her, her reputation would be completely destroyed, and her sisters would be tainted by the association of a ruined sister. Gotta love sexist double-standards, eh? 🙃

Fun fact:
Keira Knightley and Tom Hollander (the actor who plays Mr Collins) also starred together in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3, and both times Keira plays a character named Elizabeth who rejects an offer from Hollander's character.

The way yall go back and forth decoding every conversation is probably the most I’ve ever been entertained by a movie reaction 😂😂😂😂 yall are the best

I've never seen these guys so quiet during a movie lol

Joe Wright managed to show in film what Jane Austen put on paper, and he captured it wonderfully :)

This movie definitely paints Mr Bennet in a better light than he maybe deserves - don’t get me wrong, he loves Elizabeth and Jane, and he absolutely wants them to be happy. The problem is, he loves Lizzie because she’s snarky and intelligent like him, and Jane because she’s sweet and impossible not to love, but he sees his younger three daughters as silly and ignorant, and instead of being an actual parent and trying to guide them to be better, he just rolls his eyes at them and mocks them, and doesn’t do much to guide them or stop them from making fools of themselves in public, thus hurting the family’s overall reputation. Even after Lizzie’s warnings about the dangers of letting Lydia go to Brighton, he let her go because it was easier than actually being the parent and saying “no”. He does learn from his mistakes after the whole situation with Wickham, and is much more involved with Kitty and Mary and making sure they don’t turn out like Lydia. But it was too late for his youngest daughter.

it's so funny how you two assumed Jane doesn't like Bingley. Bingley also thought she didn't like him, but the conversation between Lizzie and her friend is about how Jane is so stoic that Bingley won't be able to tell she DOES like him unless she acts more overt about her feelings. The men watching this movie have ironically identified with Bingley in the misunderstanding! Made me smile.

I love this movie so much.

I will clarify for you both that the biggest issue for Darcy and Caroline was Jane and Elizabeth’s family. Their mother came across very pushy and with little to no regard for decorum or refinement in social settings while their younger sisters were seen as ridiculous and also lacked proper etiquette.

Darcy is a very good example of “if he truly loves you, he will do it”, which is what makes him so appealing to lots of us that watch it. He owned up to his mistakes and instead of just saying I’m sorry, went and actively and verbally tried to make amends for Elizabeth, his family and friends, as well as her family. I wish to find a Darcy for myself one day 😭❤️

I don’t think there is a more romantic movie than Pride and Prejudice
