When I was on exchange, my 1st host mom randomly asked me if I liked sharks, I thought it was just to keep the conversation rolling so I said yes (I do actually). Apparently, she asked me because she saw me wearing many shark-themed things on Instagram and wanted to get confirmation. It was just my former high school mascot and I was a student with school spirit.
Then she got me themed earrings, keychain, phone cord protector, we even DIYid a blanked, and later told my other 2 host families and friends. So I couldn’t tell her the whole truth lmao.
Now I love sharks because it’s a nice memory of a full year of people buying me shark-phernalia because they genuinely thought it was my thing. Needless to say, they won since now it became my thing.

I have heard that there was a study that said that men do get slightly worse cases of the flu than women.
And then a bunch of the guys that I knew who already took their sick leave for themselves and by themselves, as opposed to their wives who tended to have to take their sick leave for their children and if they took sick leave themselves they often still had to do all the school prep, drop off pick up cleaning and cooking said "see we're sicker than you so it makes sense that we need to just lie in bed while you do everything for the kids", so man flu became a short cut for that.

Years ago, I bought a sort of wooden toad thing that I tend to use as a doorstop and later when I moved house someone bought me a ceramic frog for the garden.  Now over twenty years later I have ONE WOODEN TOAD as I quite like it and I smashed the other fucker before anyone could get the wrong idea!

... turns out I'm an exception to all kinds of things ... I'm a 42 year old straight man who has never tried marmite, but genuinely loves anything polar bear related and even has a special case for all the pointless, but adorable and much loved polar bear tat I've been "gifted" over the years! lol

As a "frog woman" I feel a bit called out. 😂

When I was little, I LOVED dolphins and wanted to be a marine biologist. Then growing up, I realized I would never be able to do that. So I started loving giraffes, would study them, save pictures as screensavers. No particular reason, I just hyperfocused on giraffes, then pandas came along with my love of butterflies as well. So everyone either gets me butterflies, giraffes, or pandas (occasionally red pandas as well, which works too) and I LOVE all of them. I have a different area for collecting different things, except most of them were stuffed animals so now they're all in a hammock in the corner of my room.
But one day, about 5 years ago, I told my mom a story that an alpaca spit in my best friend's face when we went to a petting zoo as kids. So started buying me llama items. Every Christmas, every birthday, mom got me llamas. She forgot about the story I told her, but she just put it into her head that I liked llamas (which I dont) and then her friends and other family members asked if I like llamas, so she said yes, and now THEY all buy me llama things that I don't know what to do with 😂 but I always think of the original story, and it was funny.. so I guess it's ok? 😂

You know, I don’t think enough people have told Dave who Harvey Dent is.  He might still be confused.

What's even weirder is that "Postcode Lottery" has expanded to Germany. Germany doesn't have Postcodes, only Postleitzahlen which are somewhat different. The expression "Postcode" is completely foreign to Germany.

Sadly, I am a guy that's happy with anything that's got an owl, penguin, or cat (lion more so, but any cat will do) and I'm 36. 😂😂 One of the christmas presents my mum got me last year was a live sized plastic penguin from Homebase Christmas decorations. Been sitting on my bedside table all last year. He's called Frank.

I had a work colleague and her sister who, at Christmas, as well as buying presents for each other, would give each other a card, and put £10 in it. So basically they just swapped £10

I have a 3d printer and know fewer than 6 people I actually feel obligated to buy stuff for. Although as a fully grown bloke, I do have a comedy fondness for frogs and genuinely appreciate a small brass frog a friend selected to reflect the joke.

Yeah...the Postcode Lottery thing might be our fault. Here in the Netherlands we´ve had the Postcode Loterij for ages. And seeing your Postcode Lottery uses the exact same logo, just translated, means it´s one of our exports. I don´t think the people doing the exporting realised postcode lottery was already in use on your side, with a meaning all its own.

I have been bought two marmite mugs over the years; they are not identical, one is larger than the other which means that at least twice someone in the marmite marketing team has thought "You know what would be a good gift for someone? A marmite mug" and then had someone design one!

The funny thing is, is I AM a Marmite lady, in the frog lady way. I love marmite, there was a year where I could literally not find it and I made a jar last a year. Marmite knicknacks are welcome
