The Government has delivered a budget which it says will give people more of their own money and help working families.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris announced a personal income tax package which he claimed would help those who were earning good money on paper but were in reality just getting by.

The Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers confirmed new measures to cut the cost of childcare, as well as increases in social welfare.

Excise cuts announced in the wake of April's fuel protests won't be fully unwound until next June.

However, the Opposition insisted today's announcement failed to fully address cost-of-living pressures.
