People are so dumb.....
I'm disappointed no one "confessed" that their executioner/accuser were also a werewolf as revenge

What? Stealing alcohol and overturning furniture ? Oh dear, I think I might be a werewolf ........ I can smell ...... whisky .... Aaarooo !!.

If you think a werewolf or werebear is bad, just wait till you see a manbearpig.

"What did you tell them?"
"That I'm a werewolf sent by God to fight Demons."
"🤣🤣"

Imagine losing your hand in a farming accident, and the first people you go to for help gaffle you up and torture you into confessing to doing horrible things to your own family while in the form of a wolf, all so they can justify killing you and your family.

Poor Peter.

As a folklorist I’ve studied stumps case extensively. Love your coverage of this case.

That picture at 9:31 has me wondering now if Little Red Riding Hood originated from werewolf stories and if the 2011 “Red Riding Hood” movie wasn’t so off the rails after all.

See, I told you there are such things as werewolves.

Powerwolf wrote a song about this case, it's called 1589

I saw a werewolf drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic's...his hair was perfect.

I'm genuinely curious about the psychology behind such torture.  To my modern mind, it seems obvious that anyone will confess anything if pushed far enough, and it also seems obvious that anyone could be targeted through malice or mistake.  Did people of the time not realize these things?  And if they thought the torture was some sort of trial by ordeal, was there a level that, if surpassed, they could be deemed innocent?  Or was it basically just a decision of how much rack they wanted to endure before the stake?  I can understand the fear that gripped the populace when faced with supernatural or demonic ideas beyond their ken or control, but was there just no room in anybody's brain to think "maybe we got the wrong guy"???

I’m fond of historical documentary type content on YouTube and I’ve never seen this concept studied, thanks for your work.

Ah yes, man's age-old battle with ignorance... one which he cannot win for the enemy is within.

This channel, and the Darkest Chapters one, are so addicting I'm hooked.Thank You for the content and entertainment!!❤️

It’s interesting to see the evolution from the witch trial version of werewolves as people knowingly in league with the devil, killing people, to the Universal monster movie style Wolfman, who is essentially infected with something and has no real control after they are changed under a full moon, to some of the present day versions, where the shift can be voluntary at any time as well as under the full moon, and the person remains in control, and the ability in its own is a neutral or even positive phenomenon. Ideas have changed a LOT from ‘it’s because of Satan and murder is the point’. (Although that outcome still is an option.)

Also, there’s the specific delusion where someone believes they are a werewolf, and not in an edgy teen way. Apparently it’s quite rare but clinical lycanthropy is a thing. I can’t help but wonder if back in the witch trial days anyone suffering from it got convicted…

Whenever anyone tries to claim science is built on religion, i point towards stuff like this 😂

Remember folks, these people can vote

12:51 that painting is awesome!

I wish this was a podcast too so I could listen at work.  Put me in a better mood😂

Another solid video. And you were right, I’ve never heard about these trials. That said, you’re  a great storyteller, man. Please keep the great content coming!! 😊
