I think one of my favorite things about Larry is the way he expresses himself even through his boring normal choices. His boss tells him he has to run a type other than Normal in the elite four, so he picks Flying, cuz then he can still use his favorite normal/flying type.

Another thing I like about Larry is his signature move is Facade. In Japanese, the move’s name is something like “fake cheerfulness”. And Larry says it’s the technique of an adult.

Got damn, Larry. Dropping harsh truth bombs on this literal child.

The chat at the start of Iono's section is surprisingly accurate. We have the normal commenters, self-promoters, simps, god himself, mod bots, "Hi Youtube"s and a later cameo from the legendary John Dark Souls.

Just wanted to suggest that Altaria might have been gained after Grusha's snowboarding accident as an emotional support 'mon. I'm sure the hum and the habit of wrapping its trainer in a hug is very similar to animals trained to sense when their humans are in need of assistance-- like when they start releasing stress hormones or blood sugar crashes before the person even realizes it. Just watch videos of dogs forcing their owners to lay down and sometimes laying on them as protection until help can arrive.

But yeah, just wanted to add that thought since I always pictured Altaria being a good support 'mon for disabilities based on their pokedex entries. And it fits with Grusha's injuries and mental health.

Tulip really does look a fairy type trainer, but I think her revealing she’s Psychic makes a lot of sense.
Not only are psychic types usually more refined, but messing with your opponents mind is a very psychic type thing, she makes you believe she’s a fairy trainer at a glance, but then surprises she’s not. Similar to how make up can make you look different then your usual self almost like an psychic illusion.

I speak Spanish and since SV is based in Iberia, which holds Spain, I decided to play SV in Spanish. The gym leader names are all fun, but I specially love Iono’s (e-Nigma) because it continues the whole “I don’t know” thing, though it’s not really good for puns, but also I think adding the “e” separately how we do when we refer to things that are done/just are electronic versions of other things (emails, e-cigs) but it sounds more like a screen name than a real name. And while many streamers do use their real names, most tend to have a screen name, which I think is very fitting and maybe that means the other names may not be her actual name either, just what she goes by online

Funnily when vtubers fight against Iono, the chat begin rooting for Iono. I feel the whole idea of “rooting against” the performer can still be a kind of admiration, like seeing your favorite streamer failing at a challenge, if that makes sense

How did I not realize Ryme’s name is just Rhyme

I felt Altaria was white like snow, and clouds were pretty synonymous with winter, for more correlation with the ice type

Ryme's Japanese name is "Lime" because it's a pun. The Japanese language doesn't have a syllable for the "r" sound, so when lone words are used, the "L" sound is used. This works perfectly because it gives her the plant connection all the other gym leaders have as well as connecting to her music inspirations.

As a West Asian/Arab person myself I strongly think tulip is meant to represent West Asian / North African people based on her appearance and also the town she is the gym leader in strongly uses North African architecture which is a reference to when the Moors conquered the Iberian peninsula. Her use of espathra could also be a reference to this given the kinda Egyptian motif. Overall I think it's a niche reference they may have been making with Tulip and the town she is the gym leader in where it is showcasing a bit of that Moorish influence That is such a staple to the history of the Iberian peninsula

So, the reason behind Ryme's Japanese name being "Lime"...is simple. The Japanese letters for her name spells out "ライム" or "Raimu", which translates into "Lime", "Rhyme", and "Rime". And when spoken out loud, it sounds out exactly like "Ryme", "Rhyme", or "Rime". In other words, they gave her an English name that would RHYME with her Japanese name.

At least, that is what I can figure out.

Did you forget that "eat it" in snowboarding actually refers to the idea of having a particularly bad fall or crash? This also applies to skateboarding.

Very very very very small nitpick/fact sharing: bears don’t actually target beehives for the honey, they target them because they’re filled with fatty, protein rich larvae! Even if you look in the videos used during the section on bears and beehives at 1:09, you’ll notice that the stuff the bears are licking up is predominantly opaque and white (the colour of mushed up baby bees) as opposed to golden and translucent. Bears of course do enjoy the honey that comes with the beehives they attack, but it’s more of a sweet dessert rather than the main course/reason why bears risk all those stings.
