Silence is the other side of the coin of words. Without silence, words will not be heard. It is the primary discipline for everything else to exist. We are silence, but we don't know it. It has become a fundamental spiritual practice. Where there is no silence, there is chaos.

First, what is it about: looking, listening, perceiving… Without receptivity, there is no possible self-giving; no one can give what they do not have. Contemplation is paramount. Any action that does not stem from contemplation is likely to become activism and escapism. Second, how to look: lovingly, that is, attentively. Attention is the mother of all virtues. Our main threat is distraction. Third, the shadows. We must look at the darkness in order to redeem it and wrest its secret, which is none other than light. A shadow is a light that does not yet know it.
