In Defense of Miranda Hobbes - my girl deserved better

Miranda Hobbes has always been painted as the cynical, difficult friend in Sex and the City — but what if she was actually the realest one? In this video, we’re going to break down why Miranda is the unsung hero of the series: from carrying the financial and emotional burdens in her friendships, to juggling burnout at work, to being left to figure things out on her own (even through pregnancy). She was a really good friend and often this wasn't reciprocated.

Of course Miranda had her issues. She was an overachiever, struggled with her self worth, and could be high-strung and rigid in how she saw herself and life. But I loved seeing her grow was as a person, and she might just be the most relatable, refreshing and human character of them all. She carried so much for others while rarely being able to rely on them herself, or ask them for anything.

In the early seasons, Miranda definitely had her S together and than she met Steve 😭

25 years later… They turned Miranda into Skipper.

Miranda is such a cautionary tale. You need to surround yourself with people who appreciate and celebrate you. Her biggest mistake was being around people who were cruel to her and who played on her insecurities. And I'm not just talking about Steve. Her friends and some of her family were terrible to her.

Steve is the Carrie to Miranda’s Mr. Big Big. That’s why you always see Carrie defending Steve, she recognizes herself in him

Steve giving out Miranda's home number to girls he hits on after breaking up and squatting on her couch...gaol.

Miranda was a boss during Sex and the City timeline, she had her own apartment where she was the owner, financial stability and a prosperous career as a lawyer.
Steve was her downfall and Chae was her downfall in And just like that.
Thank you for making this video, she deserved better writing as a character.❤

I always thought she dated Steve bc she comes from a middle class family and wanted to proof to herself that she’s still down to earth, despite her wealth.

You are so right about Steve! He‘s a covert narcissist masked as „a nice guy“.

Miranda and Samantha should have been best friends; Miranda isn't judgemental like Charlotte and Carrie, they both have very successful careers, they can both be blunt, and Samantha would have been able to get through to Miranda about the bums she dated (especially Steve). But nooooo she has to be besties with anxious avoidant Carrie who drops anyone at any time for any man. Carrie guilts her from dumping Steve after he cheated on her bc SHE was also a cheater. Then in the new season Carrie treats Miranda like shit constantly. Miranda should have been off chilling with Samantha for brunches in Manhattan with some younger, accomplished, appreciative, caring men on their arms.

...in my opinion.

I was so confused when I learned so many people hate Miranda! She was my favorite on first watch. I love her cynical side but hate Steve.

To sum it up, Miranda and Steve are the Lynette and Tom of SATC.

I’ve always related to Miranda, I’m 39 and her in the original series only was genuinely me ❤ the decimation of this queen in the spin-off should be studied

Steve’s only reason for existing as a character, was to NERF Miranda. I wish she never ever met him 😒

I totally agree with Cynthia having very strong acting throughout the series

I feel like Sex & the City depicts 4 types of insecurities for women. Each of them represents a kind of survival skill in the modern patriarcal world for women

Finally someone is talking about this!! The least the writers could’ve done is made him a dedicated Father and a competent PARTNER he’s a total slump 🙄

Miranda should have let Steve dig his own grave when he got ball cancer. It would have saved her a lot of trouble and she never would have gotten bogged down by him and his struggle seed. Women like Miranda tend to find the BEST men due to their no-nonsense dating policies, but I agree MPK wanted to embarrass her at every turn for being so confident without a man (in the beginning).

You need to take into account that SJP was made executive producer. This would motivate the focus on her own character development at the expense of the other characters. This was the main reason for her contentious relationship with Kim C.
