Carrie Bradshaw was the WORST friend a deep dive

Was Carrie Bradshaw actually a bad friend? In this deep dive into Sex and the City, we’re unpacking the many moments where Carrie prioritized men, drama, or her own ego over the women who stood by her. Let’s talk friendship, self-awareness, and what Sex and the City got wrong (or right) about being there for your girls. Did Carrie really support her friends — or just use them as a backdrop?

Carrie Bradshaw seemed to lack self-awareness, rarely recognizing how her actions, or inaction impacted those around her. There’s also a striking contrast in how she approached relationships: with Mr. Big, she was a doormat, ignoring every sign that he wasn’t truly invested and never finding the self-worth to walk away. But with her friends, she swung the other way often acting with so much confidence and entitlement that she seemed to walk all over them. It’s a contradiction that highlights just how emotionally inconsistent and, at times, toxic she really was.

She didn't ask Charlotte for money, she bullied and guilted her into lending her the money. She is awful.

I had a friend that acted just like Carrie. When I was in my 20’s we used to call her the Carrie of our group. By the time we got in our 40’s we all cut her off. Because just like Carrie Bradshaw in AJLT she never grew. The ladies being in their 50’s and still walking on eggshells for Carrie was the most unrealistic part of the show.

In short, yes, she is.

This season Miranda doesn't have a place to live, and it doesn't even cross her mind to let miranda stsy with her. Carrie says that she forgets that she has extra bedrooms ! What???

She should have taken the money from Big. Out of everybody, he would not have missed that money at all.

To me the worst part is when Charlotte tells the group that she and Harry got engaged and within two seconds Carrie starts blabbing about the Post-It. “Paper covers rock.” Ugh she is the worst.

Guilting Charlotte into giving her money was most high on her list of sins, imo. Her entitlement was off the charts appalling.

Short answer is Yes! Samantha is the best friend in the group, she even babysitted Miranda's child so she can get a hairdo by the stylist Samantha was dying for. Miranda is the friend who tells you the hard truth while Charlotte is the sweet friend who always listen. Carrie always chose man over her friends.

Charlotte planned Miranda's baby shower; Samantha gave Miranda a hair appointment and babysat; Carrie never did ANYTHING specifically supportive of the pregnancy or the baby

To quote a BFF of mine: “If she (Carrie Bradshaw) were anymore self centered, she’d be Inside out!”

The worst Carrie moment to me is by far her decision to leave Miranda waiting for her at a bar to go have dinner with Big. We’ve all had the moment when a friend ditches us to go hang out with their SO, and we all know what it feels like to realize we were the “backup” option.

How about Charlotte's engagement to Harry happening the same timeline as she gets dumped by post it; she literally makes the day about HER, even telling Charlotte "paper covers rock" as though saying "my news is bigger"; they go on a night out to make Carrie feel better, NONE OF THEM celebrate Charlotte's engagement and it takes a drunk bachelorette party in a dive bar to make Charlotte feel excited and special

I think the biggest thing with Carrie is that in the original series, the three other characters challenged themselves, developed and improved, while Carrie arguably got worse.

Just started the vid but I bet the answer is YES SHE IS

Her guilting and being angry at Charlotte was the moment I realized she was shitty when I was watching it while it was airing as a teenager. It reminded me of a friend I had in high school that got mad at me for not allowing her to copy my homework. I didn't want to do it because I was afraid the teacher would figure it out and give both of us 0s.

I think the moral of the story is that when you are extremely male centered it can often make you a bad friend. She was generally inconsiderate and selfish though. The way she never really resolves issues shows a lack of self awareness and an unwillingness to change. She’s lucky to have had friends willing to put up with that!!

Ok the always forgotten GenX here - the OGs of the show.
Carrie was a HORRIBLE friend. She stayed with the other 3 because nobody else would put up with her. She was selfish and needy and very self-centered.
She needed the other women otherwise she would have no career.
She expected them to take care of her but she rarely had their backs. And she treated Samantha so horribly

YES, she was. No need for video essays to know that, although yours are always super welcome

Sometimes if my anxiety sends me and I worry I'm a bad friend I look at Carrie and feel better...and try to do the opposite of most of what she does lol
