Hey folks, we referenced a lot of articles and interviews in this video, so if you want to check them out yourself I've got them all here for you

As a dev working on a small fighting game as part of a two man team, I can't tell you how much I needed to hear the moral of this story.

The way how I know the creator of BlazBlue helped make this is because you hear "I'll explain that later" eleventeen times

The "made in a cave with a box of scraps" reference is an all-timer, and I'm glad it's here.

Ah UnderNight. My favorite "I guess this is my thursday night" game and i mean that in the best way

Thanks for this. I'm a player who got into it from word of mouth and I've been playing it happily for 8 years. Glad to see more word of mouth spreading, and I hope others have a great time like I have.

"Hyde should look more like a protagonist"

That one statement, combining with FB writing whatever they're familiar with, led to a good chunk of the cast being Temu versions of 2000's Type Moon characters, and I mean it affectionately.

One underrated aspect of Under Night I'd like to point out, is the voice cast. The game had quite a few prolific VAs in the anime industry and while the game had a few notable VAs at the start others began to get bigger roles later on and UNI retroactively had a bunch of big name VAs lending their voices as a result.

[Narita was asked about Queen of Hearts and in the most ominous way he replied, "ah- " ]

"oh hell yeah a new Thorgi upl- HOLY MOTHER OF GOHANALOGONGAS!"

In all seriousness, thank you for this series Thorgi. As a VERY casual fighting game fan who doesn't have the time or resolve to experience most of what this awesome genre has to offer, your channel is my main way to at least learn more about it.

How does Undernight have both more AND less games than I thought it had?

A guy named Byakuya with an unhealthy relationship with her sister?

yeah the bleach influence is strong in this one

Anime characters fighting in Tokyo or an incredibly liminal tokyo-like city in the middle of the night. Peak vibes.

I’d known about Under Night In-Birth from seeing it around the internet for years, got lucky enough to find it at my library last year and god. This game really does just know how to pull off absolutely STYLE!

Hearing how much love and care went into this game only makes me love it more tbh…

This is the series that truly got me into fighting games. I used to watch videos of fighting games, but never truly touched one. Back in high school I watched BBTAG and while I recognized the three other franchises in the game, I never heard of Under Night. I got curious, and after finding out what it’s about, and seeing the gameplay, I fell in love. I don’t know how, I kinda just vibed with it, sometimes that just happens. Thank you Thorgi, for talking about the series that finally made me take the step into the insanity that is fighting games!

The funniest part about Carmine dying is that it’s confirmed that he’s not even using his blood to fight, it’s just some weird liquid exs he produces which gave him the placebo effect of thinking it was his blood (hence why you lose health despite not technically taking damage)

This either implies that his abilities still damaged him, just not in the way he thought. OR his placebo was so strong that he literally gave himself a terminal illness because of it

Thorgi coming in clutch with another "what the heck is this?" Hope it's gonna be a banger like The Rumble FishThe Rumble Fish-fish-fish

It has certainly been a while since I've been on the receiving end of listening to a UNI lore video.

An easy way to distinguish Linne and Kuon's immortality is that Kuon was cursed with an immortal body whose soul is more or less guaranteed to deteriorate over time. Linne on the other hand has her soul renewed with each physical death, keeping her soul relatively "fresh".
Kuu's only other big significance is that it has essentially kept watch on Linne for the past 500 years for Kuon's benefit since it has the uncanny ability to know where Linne is at all times. You can take that as Linne having an incredibly loyal pet dragon or a surveillance system that always knows where she is and an entity she can never escape from.

Linne's reincarnation is a lot more detailed than just "reincarnating as a little girl". Linne's soul physically hijacks the still-living soul of a pseudo-random girl of her choosing within the country to reincarnate inside of, slowly melding the host's memories with her own. This is a big reason why she wants to die permanently, because she has ruined the lives of countless girls over 500 years of forced reincarnations.
Waldstein's immortality is a unique circumstance because the story says he's in greyzone of being half in-birth and half-void so his immortality is separate from an average in-birth's longevity, which we really know little about. Waldstein's EXS went out of control during his duel with Kuon when he, in a last ditch effort to win the duel, tried to shatter Kuon's vessel. This only worked partly and the EXS from Kuon start flowing into Wald instead, triggering the transformation process.
Seth is one of the few active Night Blade members working out in the streets and his Assassin moniker is through being an on-call problem solver working at Amnesia's behest through his connection with Chaos.
Yuzu's family WAS part of the Night Blade instead of just unrelated allies and they split with the side Seth's family were a part of to over differences between keeping themselves hidden again or freely flaunting their powers to defend themselves.
Vatista gave Kuon one of her wings. She originally had 7, and is now left with 6. Kuon's power eventually turned said wing into the Insulator. Higan was apparently the one who took the Insulator from Kuon after he became immortal.
Carmine's power goes even deeper than blood manipulation. Carmine's power is manipulating raw EXS, the source of nearly everyone's power, in a liquid medium and Carmine just think it's his blood and that simple suggestion in his brain makes him actually lose health because his power is so comprehensive that it makes it happen. Since he has no friends, nobody has explained this to him.
Gord steals stuff/GRD with his freakishly large nails on his right hand, not the scythe. The scythe is the distraction, it's that command grab you're actually afraid of.
Nanase and Hyde aren't classmates at all. She's a 2nd year middle schooler while he's a 2nd year highschooler.
Chaos is pretty friendly with Enkidu, Uzuki, Londrekia, and even Seth. It's just his luck that he primarily runs into the dumber side of the cast. You forgot to mention that Gordeau was the one who recruited Chaos to Amnesia to begin with.
Phonon still refers to herself with concept stage name of Chemeti as another moniker. Chemeti is technically in the game and realized through Phonon.
I don't think Adelheid created Ritter Schild. It was more like the the men who were kicked out felt that they were unfairly treated and wanted to stay useful to Licht Kreis' cause because at the end of the day, they're ostensibly representing order.
Kaguya's circumstances that led to her killing her father is incredibly murky so I wouldn't suggest she grew up in an abusive home. For all we know she lived a relatively decent life until an inciting incident caused that event.
Ogre didn't necessarily jump into the abyss to stop it. He was just holding back Roger, got beat, and was absorbed into it. Evidently, Ogre's ending suggests Roger himself had something to do with Ogre's safe passage back to the world of the living.
Still jarring to see people confused by this series' plot when barely anything has happened. If someone can understand Blazblue than they can easily understand a story that literally has a single storymode.
I don't necessarily agree with how chronicle mode drags. In visual novel standards, a 10 hour VN is considered SHORT. I think VNs + videogame combinations like Ace Attorney and Danganronpa have skewed the opinion on VNs having gameplay to break things up.

And to hammer home how different FB operates with the "sales" talk, UNICLR was a free update for anyone who owned UNIST. CLR came out in February and people had until April to claim that free upgrade. They literally do not seem to have cared about making money with that particular update aside from selling Lond for 7 dollars, and he wasn't even all that strong during release.

FINALLY!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RESTROSPECTIVE!!!

16:53 that picture has a lot of "he asked for no pickles" energy.

Thorgi: the voice of equal parts inspiration and nostalgia in the fighting game community.

Also you’re videos are amazing and i hope you are doing great
