There are absolute gold nuggets of info throughout this video... V blocks for alignment during gluing, balanced line stand-off distances, using a core drill to cut & radius the stand-off spacers... Absolute gold dust... Thanks very much. Fantastic video
Thanks for one of the best amateur related videos. Clear and concise with no long-winded intro and weather forecast. Each stage described clearly with no repetition.
As a user of doublets for all band use, I’ve had good results using 4:1 baluns.
I just finished my own doublet, I used 600 ohm window line, got it up 70 feet into the trees, my tall pines sway, so I had to put weights and pulleys on the ends of the antenna... Great antenna, boy you had a lot of intensive work getting those pvc spreaders built and positioned.. I enjoy all your videos... Thanks 73
Hi Colin - I’m just trying to get back into Ham Radio after an almost 40yr gap and trying to get on the air discretely (so as not to freak out the neighbours) in my small garden at the West of Edinburgh. I just came across your channel while investigating transformers for wire antennas (most of what I had found previously is from the US) and then ended up watching this video. I’m very impressed by your installation in what is obviously a small garden. Now Subscribed! 😊 73 de Peter GM4RAH
Nice work! Been keeping a 600 ohm ladder line fed antenna in the air now for at least a couple years now. It is my go to multiband solution. I have deployed a 300' doublet, a 125' doublet, a 66' doublet, a 700' loop, and currently have up a 400' doublet. 73 KF0BBU
Great to see this Colin. I've heard a lot about doublets and have been considering one, so I will be very interested to follow along and see how it works out for you. Thanks for the tips.
Great video! I've been using a Doublet now for close to 25 years and enjoy it. I have however made a few changes from the Antenna Handbook design. After having read DJ0IP's writings about the Doublet, and advice from a gentleman from Palomar Engineers I've since shortened the radiators to 115' overall length. That's down from the 135' I normally have used. I use the MFJ-974HB Balanced Line Tuner and it works great. I have also used it with a 1:1 balun, and a short coax into my Ten Tec 238 ATU. That's my main antenna.
