Paweł loses a huge debt at cards, his wooden house in Lipiny, and his own wife "for good measure." He flees through the garden, his mother-in-law refuses Agata shelter, and a strange man allows her to stay only as a paid housekeeper. At night, he taps the stones under the floor. He repairs an old stove, protects an apple tree, and searches for something Regina Krawczyk fears more than the court.
This is a story about economic violence, learned helplessness, memory engraved in objects, and the price of collective silence. Agata must decide whether another person reaches out to her or simply uses her in their revenge. After the story, Andrzej invites you to a short commentary about regaining agency and why one person speaking the truth can overcome the fear of an entire group.
