Piotr stops his car next to an elderly Roma woman walking alone through the downpour. When she looks at his hand, she utters three words: "She's carrying someone else's child."
For fifteen years, the mechanic trusted his wife more than himself. He saved for treatment and the house they shared, endured contempt for his job, and attributed every lie to exhaustion. A few days after their encounter, however, he overhears a conversation on the road that strips him of all his excuses.
Betrayal is only the beginning. After a serious accident, Piotr loses the use of his legs, and Joanna takes his savings and medications. Help comes from people he barely knew before. Magda doesn't promise a miracle. She gives him back a dry bed, food, treatment, and the space to regain his agency.
This is a fictional Polish story about betrayal, economic violence, dignity, and boundaries. Through the story, Andrzej examines the trauma of betrayal, financial control, self-efficacy, and the support that helps without sacrificing independence.
