In the summer of 2024, journalists from Radio Liberty's Kazakhstan service spoke with the mother of a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Kyzylorda, who said her daughter was held in sexual slavery by her classmates. The girl was forced into prostitution and raped by more than 200 men over the course of eight months. Novaya Gazeta Evropa journalist Fariza Dudarova spoke with the schoolgirl's mother and human rights activist from the "Don't Be Silent KZ" foundation about the investigation into the case, the victim's current experiences, and why investigators are not planning to punish all those who abused the minor.
