Every time I listen to Joni Mitchell, I'm blown away. She is a true artist, in every sense of the word. So glad she's still around.

Joni is what happens when poetry meets musical genius.

Beautiful melodic song. The river is like a means of escape. Hasn't anyone wanted something to sweep them away? Lovely composed.

"Mitchell penned the tune after her breakup with fellow singer/songwriter Graham Nash, who told the Guardian earlier this year that, "River' made me sad, because it chronicled the end of our relationship, but also elated, because it was such a beautiful song and she had the courage to bare her soul. We were very much in love. I treasured that relationship."

I've heard this number a hundred times. Why do I still get choked up every time I hear it? Wonderful to experience your reaction to this great song.

Merry Christmas to a young man I respect and admire immensely. Thank you for this.

"Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) has been nominated for the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Historical Album. It is the 17th Grammy nomination Mitchell has received since her first in 1969. To date, she has won nine Grammy Awards. That could change on Monday, January 31 when the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show will be broadcast live on CBS."

River is my favorite Christmas song. Of course that speaks volumes about how much I dislike Christmas.

What a talented lady. Not only is she a great musician/songwriter, but she is very good painter as well. Her vocals, music and lyrics are all extraordinary. What I like most about her music is the honesty.

Joni just released official video for this. She was artist first who was told by art teacher if can create paintings she can paint music. She did.

Joni Mitchell was asked if she meant it to be a Christmas song. She asked "why shouldn't there be a Xmas song for people who are sad"?

If you have lived and loved and lost it all, this is one of the great songs. One of the great songwriters .

A frozen river is always still flowing, and teeming with life. This only adds to the allegorical mastery of Joni Mitchell. So many directions to navigate. Merry Christmas, Legion.

One of her very best and most important tunes in folk rock history!

Daniel, you are AWESOME to watch! I love your deep dives into the artists and the lyrics. You’re so thoughtful and well spoken, and I really appreciate that. Found you through Pentatonix reactions, but now I’m binging everything I can! Thank you so much! 💜

If you like Joni, and female folk singers, you can't beat Sandy Denny.

Yes.

This song perfectly matches our Christmas this year. Not a break up thing but eventually, if you live long enough, there will be a loss or sadness associated with almost every holiday. Sad but true, that's life.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas, enjoy every one you can. 🌲
