As a musician, composer, performer, Joni has no weakness.  This best of her generation and that's some serious competition.

Just one woman and an Appalachian dulcimer. Singing live on the BBC, and captivating the audience

-As I grow older my appreciation of Joni increases exponentially.

I met Joni once when i was 10. My mother is friends with Folk singer Judy Collins & my  mother & i went to her home for lunch. Joni happen be there that day. I sat next to her at the kitchen table. I have fond memories of Joni leaning next to me & caressing with my hair for almost an hour while the ladies were chatting.

She was completely self-taught so her style was purely creative due to the absence of any formal instruction.  Add to that her natural prodigy genius, and it’s an incredible combination.

Somebody gave Joni that mountain dulcimer, and this amazing song is what she came up with.

Incredible performance.

This is the Joni that among many guys my age had us all smitten totally. The strength, the imagery, the gorgeous lady who sang like an angel and smiled like a queen. Whew! Thanks for bringing another perspective to her talent and genius.

There is really no other way to describe Joni Mitchel musically other than genius. She is a genius. It's a tragedy that she can never perform like this again because of her health, but the genius of her music is a legacy that will live on long after she and all the rest of us have passed on.

Joni Mitchell is a world treasure. She's a sort of Leonardo da Vinci of music...a genius without limits.

She's such an honest lyricist, very authentic. You know what she's passionate about.

The brilliant Joni Mitchell.  A National Treasure here in Canada 🇨🇦❤

For some reason this relatively happy song brought me to tears. Joni Mitchell does it for me every time.

I watched the documentary about Laurel Canyon, and an interview with Stephen Stills. He said that when they met and started experimenting, her instrument tunings were unorthodox, and 'all over the place'.

It turns out, her tunings were inspired to replicate the sounds of nature, and birdsongs that she heard, giving her songs a familiar beauty that everyone recognized, - but nobody could quite place - explaining how her music was mysterious, and drew the listener in.

The first time I heard Joni I was about 20 and my first thought was "who is this person and why haven't I heard her before?" She's a brilliant poet, composer, singer...All her songs she opens her heart (even the funny ones)

I,ve been a Joni fan since 1975, best female songwriter,arranger in History!@❤😊😊

She's just so inspired.  Her use of repetition, rubato that 'falsetto' head voice is all so heartbreakingly free.  All her storytelling subordinates emotionally on a dime to personal pleas: Will you take me as I am?  It's so disarming and vulnerable.  Nobody could deny her.  That must have been an extraordinary sense of presence and authority for Mitchell.  It's still not easy listening to performances like this with dry eyes.

Ain't nobody like Joni.

She is the innocence and the beauty of our youth. God we only have this once! Thank you.

This live performance of Joni's was a delight as was your analysis. Pure joy.

Inspired
Joni was a natural. No formal training.
No learned techniques.
She made new tunings because her left
hand was partially crippled,
rather than excuses for why she couldn't
She didn't even WANT to be singer
she just loved to sing
And learned she could use it to pay for
her cigarettes and wine
All the training in the world cannot replace
or replicate the power of true
inspiration
