Tiny Home Living at 72! Smart, stress free retirement in a Tiny Home Village

Tiny House Giant Journey

After retiring and selling the home he had lived in for 16 years, Jim downsized to a 399 sq ft tiny house in an Austin Tiny Home Village to simplify life and be closer to his daughters. The move dramatically reduced his expenses — with utilities as low as $18 for electricity and about $35 for heating — making it easy to live comfortably on a pension. Inside, the home blends practicality with personal history, from handmade pottery and antique furniture to his great-grandparents’ bed that makes the space feel truly like home. By customizing the exterior with bold colors and redesigning the interior for safer loft access, Jim created a tiny house that reflects his personality while proving that downsizing can free up both finances and freedom for new adventures.

This is incredible Jim. Jim is a dear friend of mine who i lived with in Vermont. Your tiny home feels like your Vermont home we shared and I feel that just from this video. Great job to the person who put this video together. I love every bit of this.

Fabulous! This is the first tiny house I could actually live in; it has some soul. The loft is for guests, not the retiree. Well done. What a charming, creative man.

Thank you reading the poem and for the wise advise of living life well and full of meaning, whatever it means to each of us. And for allowing us into your home.

He knocked it out of the ballpark with his own artistic vibe. Love the two porches as he redesigned them with amazing flair. (One can see & use what he has done for any sized home.)
The colors are fab. There is no need for all tiny homes to look drab & the same. Using color (or peel & stick wallpaper) is great. Love his furniture choices. I have heard there are a lot of bugs/mosquitoes in Texas during the summer, but I suppose he would have screens put up around the porches to keep that at bay.
The loft is great too.
The stained glass windows are excellent!
As his home is on the end, there is more privacy. He did a superb job. Awesome & very cool. 😊

I have 8 dogs. I knew that true Tiny Home living was not going to work. The fact that you chose the home with quick access to a large open area says a lot about your love for the happiness of your dogs. I am going small. . . small home (< 800 SQ ft) on a BIG lot (0.84 acres). I am probably about a year away. In the meantime I am downsizing and packing. I will be in a RV shuttle bus conversion for a while. You seem very happy. . .that is what matters. I love your desk area!! 😊
