If you come to Australia, birds are the first thing people notice- they are everywhere, very loud and very cool

13:00 It's "The Kookaburra SITS in the old GUM tree". It's an Australian nursery rhyme that spread from a girl guide competition and went viral across Australia in the 1930's. Most kids will learn it growing up, even if they never see kookaburras.

There are no shy Cockies. They are absolutely crazy batshit mad and very entertaining. If you start feeding them they'll bang on your windows and doors if you're slow with the food.

I took that photo... 16:43 These little miners were fledglings and their first day out of the nest. Glad to see Darcy's made good use of this pic.

If you see a Lyre bird you will be blown away with the sound they can duplicate they can mimic a chain saw or any other bird, truely amazing.

Willie Wagtails are fearless. I've seen one chasing a hawk in the sky one day, and if they nest very protective.

I see rainbow lorikeets every time I go for a walk.

Cockies are highly intelligent, malevolent little white and yellow imps. My parents made the mistake of throwing some grain bread on the front lawn for them one afternoon, now nearly every day about 4pm, two cockies rattle the screen door looking for bread.!

In the central west of Queensland, galahs are attracted to the fermenting Burdekin plums that proliferate beneath the very common trees in the region. The result is a plethora of drunken birds exhibiting very questionable behaviour on the nearby power lines. They are very happy drunks.

My primary school had so many issues with cockatoos. We used to have bins without lids and the cockatoos started emptying them for fun even affer finding food. So we got wheelie bins with lids. They opened those amd emptyed them. So we put them next to poles which had metal sticking out, preventing the bins from opening more than a crack. They still managed to stick their heads in and empty them. One day we got to school only to see a tipped over bin and cockatoos going nuts over it. When I graduated primary school, the bins were chained to the poles.

Noisy miners do swoop you in breeding season. But compared to magpies they’re nuthin

What amazes first-time visitors is that the birds literally are everywhere. You live in an apartment downtown in the city - 100% you've seen all these birds. In the intro he gives the impression you have to go out into the bush with binoculars, but that's not the case at all!

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree (not oak tree!!)

He left out the butcher bird singing, they are my favourite, their song always makes me smile

G'day mate.  The trick to avoiding the annual Magpie apocalypse is to make friends with them. I haven't been swooped within a few blocks of my place in 15 years.  The breeding pair in my neighbourhood have been coming to me for handfeeding and babysitting duty for many generations of their kiddos. They leave their kids in my backyard because they know they'll be safe.  It's really cool 😎

Coming from Australia to north America i found your birds fascinating 😂 they're so dainty and sound like they're out of a disney movie

Btw, magpies are the only ones who attack, the others are just loud af. Magpies will remember a face for decades so if you piss them off or they just decide they dont like you them and their buddies will have a vendetta and each season you'll get swooped (not even exaggerating). I've purposely fed some in my neighbourhood for self preservation, you don't wanna be on their sh!t list lmao.

Fun fact. Every Australian State has an official bird emblem. Tasmania - Yellow Wattle Bird, New South Wales - Kookaburra, Victoria - Helmeted Honey Eater, Australian Capital Territory - Gang Gang Cockatoo, Queensland - Brolga, Western Australia - Black Swan, Northern Territory- Wedge Tailed Eagle, South Australia- Magpie. They also have an accompanying floral emblem for each state, but that’s another topic…

I think honourable mentions should also go to the humble budgie and cockatiel that has been supplying pet shops round the world for years. Yes, they come from the wilds of Down Under!

And in my opinion the most enigmatic of all Australian birds is the lyrebird. It’s the Australian version of the peacock, as it will do a fancy dance and can it’s tail out in a similar version… but will also imitate the call of other birds, chainsaws, car alarms, babies crying and one at the Sydney Zoo learnt to imitate the evacuation alarm. 😂

I live in New Zealand and I'm the proud owner of 3 rescued Sulpher Crested cockatoos , 5 rescue Rainbow lorikeets and 5 rescue budgies and 1 rescued cockatiel
